Description mkol 2005-02-03 22:51:45 UTC
In OOo 1.1 Writer a user can apply Outline effect for formatting characters
through option Format -> Character -> Font Effects -> Outline. Once user has
applied this effect character are shown using outlines, but they are
Solid/Opaque (With White color) Please refer attached file
Opaque_Characters.PNG

On the other hand, if word is used for the same kind of effect, than resulting
characters are Transparent. A user can see the background through them. Refer
attached file Transparent_Characters.PNG.

Here are few suggestions for OOo writer -
* Ability to make Characters Transparent (New Option)
* Ability to make Characters Opaque (Already there)
* Ability to Change Inside color, if the Character is Opaque (Enhancement)

Can OOo users have these options?

reassigned to requirements.

Currently, the "inner" area of outline characters are displayed white. For
better compatibility with competitor there should be the mentioned option at least.

Please have a look at the attachment “Character_Formatting.png”. Professional
DTP packages offer this kind of character formatting. Can OOo move in this
direction?

Attachment Character_Formatting2.png depicts some more character effects
present in publication tools. Can they be included in *All* components of OOo
like Impress, Draw, Chart etc, apart from word processor? Perhaps OOo should
think beyond MSO.
