Description cfynn 2005-02-20 18:17:05 UTC
It would be very useful to be able to define fonts for CT scripts on a script by
script basis and/or on a per language basis. (i.e. one font for Bengali, one for
Hindi, one for Tibetan, one for for Urdu, one for Arabic, .... etc.) since one
font is rarely useful for more than one CTL script.

Mozilla and Firefox have such a feature (under: Tools, Options, Fonts & Colors,
 Fonts for..")

In addition it would also be useful to be able to define some kind of relative
size (and maybe v. position) for these scripts since, due to their different
metrics, fonts for different scripts at a given point size often do not have the
the same "optical size" which is more important than point size when mixing two
scripts.

[Hope I'm submitting this feature request in the right section (l10n). Apologies
if this is the wrong place for this.]

SBA: Sound like a meaningful enhancement for people dealing with different CTL
scripts.
I adjusted the summary to match the findings. Reassigned to requirements.

This feature is still not available in OpenOffice 2.4 which continues to make
working with multiple scripts more difficult that it should be.

Andrew West's Unicode text editor BabelPad
<http://www.babelstone.co.uk/Software/BabelPad.html> has a nice interface for
assigning different fonts for different scripts under "Options, Composite Font
Mappings" - essentially letting the user define virtual composite fonts.

Something similar to this in OO.org would fit the bill. [I'm sure that if asked,
Andrew would not mind OO.org copying his interface.] An enhancement that could
be made to what is in BabelPad, would be to be able to alow selection of
relative sizes to each font within a virtual composite font.
