Description jameswilson 2005-02-23 17:04:47 UTC
If you hide a section on m79, and the section is not write protected, then you
can easily delete the whole section by mistake. This is because the whole
section is deleted if you delete the text marker at the point where the section
is hidden. No warning is given, and the text inside the hidden section does not
reappear into the main body of the document. (As happens if you delete a
non-hidden section). This obviously could cause data loss.

After a bit of experimentation, I've discovered that if you write protect the
section before you hide it, then Writer behaves as it should.

The hidden section itself will be removed, but not its content. Thus it is not
so important as it first seems.

MRU->OS: we should implement a query whre the user will be informed, that a
non-visible item will be removed from the document; this will make handling a
bit more transparent.

The proposed solution sounds sensible, and I would agree that this bug is hardly
a priority. But nonetheless, it's not true to say that "The hidden section
itself will be removed, but not its content. Thus it is not so important as it
first seems."

I've attched a short document to demonstrate the bug. In the attached document,
there's a hidden section (Section1) between the text
"This is some text"
and
"This is unhidden again".

If you open the Navigator, and go down to "Sections", then you'll be able to see
Section 1 is there. Now put the cursor immediately after "This is some text",
and press delete a few times. The hidden section will be removed, and the text
inside it will not appear in the document.
