Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 43494
hyperlinks should support word wrap
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:36:19 UTC
there is no way to work with hyperlinks in impression: - no possibility to remove link - no possilibility to word-wrap link - you can choose between making very tiny font size or it will be partialy out of visible area of the page minor bugs: - some problems with selecting hypertext [few strange behaviors it looks like mousebuttonreleased not working, and after selecting text it selects the rest of text, its hard to find a place where to click so the link would not open webbrowser but allow to modify text - it wolud be better if hypertext in edit mode would not open webbrowser - if someone wants there is 'open hyperlink' in context menu. imho if one creates the document he will rather edit text style/ font etc rather then open the link] - after changing the color of text of hyperlink, and then set it to auto, it will be black, not a blue. any way i could not find a configuration for default color for hyperlinks. and this default color does not work any way.
@1: just selecting and deleting the hyperlink works here in my version. Can you attach the problem file? @2: just insert and alternative, shorter text under "further settings". Selecting the link with TAB or dragging open a selection window selects the link - then just doubleclick it and you are in editing mode (text must get the "black background"). You can easily change the default color of hyperlinks under Tools/ options/ appearance.
-> @1: selecting and deleting? i think i used wrong word - not 'remove the link' i should rather say 'strip the link from the text'. i mean - i do not want to delete text, i just wish to make it normal text without hyperlink. i colud not find such an option anywhere... even if i use edit->hyperlink there is no such possibility. even if i clear entire address, after applying it automaticly put i t again. -> @2: i have no idea what does this sentence mean at all. if you could please provide me with perhaps some more basic english becouse i don't even get a context. about the rest: 'selecting link with TAB' - i tried in impression and in writer, i found no way to select link with TAB key. TAB selects entire... don't know the name - window which can consist of many links and texts and other objects. 'or dragging open a selection window selects the link - then just doubleclick it and you are in editing mode (text must get the "black background").' - hmmm... i don't know what do you mean by 'editing mode' [sorry ]. anyway, double, tripple or anynumber-le clicking does nothing for me ): and how to reproduce color bug: - create any hyperlink [it is blue by default] - select it - change font color from default to any - f.ex yellow. - now change it to 'automatic'. should be blue imho. but it is black. that's not a big deal anyway...
@1: ok, in impress/draw this cannot be done. In writer I think it can. However, this would be a feature. @2: in the hyperlink dialog you can enter an alternative text for the link. This will make it much shorter than displaying the complete link. Normally with the TAB key you can select all the objects on an impress or draw page after another. This does not work in writer and if the content of a page is grouped. Then the complete group will be selected. There are two modes: editing mode and selecting mode. When some obejct is selected you can drag it arround. When text is in edit mode you have a blinking cursor in it and you can change it. For the color problem I have written i43689.
-> @1 and @2: it;s quite strange imho. in presentation what you want to show is link. if i display it on large screen what i want to show IS the ADDRESS. making it impossible to wordwrap makes impossible to present link on the screen. so there could be a 'backdoor' if one could stip out the hypertext and make the link sticte-text. so it could be wordwrapped and not be active [what is useless anyway in presentation]. but there is no such possibility eighter. am writing abut that, becouse i've just had a presentation and i had to use powerpoint because of that.
I agree with you, thats why I wrote: However, this would be a feature. The other things you have mentioned are not bugs. I will change the summary a little bit that it fits the description. Reassigned. Thanks for your help.
This problem also exists within Calc. IMHO I feel that the issue in Calc is more of a bug. The word wrap format should always wrap words, no matter what is contained within the cell. This is particularly annoying after creating a spreadsheet in Excel which word wrap does work for hyperlinks.

Word-wraps within Hyperlinks should also be supported in Draw. I would have thought this is more of a bug than an enhancement since making text a hyperlink will *undo* current word wrapping.
