Description ralphie 2005-03-01 00:32:27 UTC
Actually not OOo 2.0 Beta, but Beta candidate, but I think that sting has been
there for ages anyway:

One problem of the German translation for styles and templates is that both can
be translated as "Vorlagen". Therefore styles are tanslated as "Formatvorlagen",
templates as "Dokumentvorlagen".

But in Datei->Dokumentvorlagen (the Templates Management dialog) there is
"Vorlagen" without a prefix used ambigously, see:

http://www.pangea.at/~ralph/dokumentvorlagen_verwalten.png

In the left part of the dialog "Meine Vorlagen" uses "Vorlagen" as
in "Dokumentvorlagen" (this is a default folder that is in a new
installation) while on the right hand side the highlighted "Vorlagen"
actually means "Formatvorlagen" (it is "Styles" in the English version).

I think at least the right occurence should be changed to "Formatvorlagen",
this makes even more sense, now that the Sytlist has got its new name.
Renaming the folder might be a good idea too, but I don't think this
is *that* confusing, as people expect folders to be named somewhat more
arbitrarily anyway.

Thanks!

Completely agree.
This applies to all OS and is not really a "bug", is's just unfavourable.
Thanks anyway for noting.

SBA: Reassigned to LIZ.

Good points.

I have to admit that because SO/OOo does not have a layout manager for the UI
text, we sometimes take the liberty of using different terms (not exact
equivalents) in German than in English to save space, which might be an issue
here. However, I was the one who years ago started to differentiate between the
two types of "Vorlagen" by calling them "Dokumentvorlagen" and "Formatvorlagen".

The older German versions only had "Vorlagen" but, as I was once a translator
translating this all-inclusive German term into English (that had to
differentiate because it lacked an umbrella term like "Vorlagen", much to the
consternation of the German designers at the time), I fought to pull the
concepts apart. Therefore, accepting as a task for Office Later in hopes of
ridding the UI of mixed German concepts.

liz->OS: Please rename as follows (there appears to be enough space to use the
correct German terms)

[German only]

Meine Vorlagen ---> Meine Dokumentvorlagen

KeyId 226615
Language German
PRJ sfx2
Filename source\doc\doctempl.src
Build SRC680
GID TEMPLATE_LONG_NAMES_ARY
LID 1
Type itemlist

I don't know which string is the entry on the right (see screen shot), but I
hope you know which resource is being used. Check the English and if you find
"Styles" in English, change
Vorlagen ---> Formatvorlagen

("Vorlagen" should really not be used anywhere, but I know it has to in a couple
places where there isn't enough space for the whole German text. Just so you know.)
Thanks!
