Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 44201
Table looses its formatting when opened with Microsoft word
Last modified: 2005-03-14 10:19:45 UTC
(Nasser Abosaq , Seema Gandhi 03/05/05) We find out that the table created and saved (.doc) using Open Office writer 2.0 does not keep its formatting when it opens using Microsoft word 2003. Steps of producing the bug 1. Open new Writer document 2. create a table 3. Set the Above spacing to 5.00 inches Table -> table properties -> table tab -> change the Above value to 5.00 4. save the document as Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc) 5. It pops up the message window asking to keep the same file format click yes 6. Close the file 7. Open this file using Microsoft word 2003 8. The table loses its formatting
I am successfully able to replicate this bug on a following system confrigration: Hardware: PC Operating System: Windows XP Version:OOo 2.0 Beta Alernate steps of replication: 1. Open a Writer document and create a table of any dimension. 2. Set the above spacing to any value in inches and save it as a .doc file. 3.Close the file. 4.Open this using Microsoft Word 2003. RESULT: The table loses its formatting. Reproducibility: Always Atul chouhan
The problem is, that Word only supports this (above table spacing) with tables which are wrapped by text. Writer currently only supports tables WITHOUT text wrapping. Thus, this can't be stored by two reasons: 1. Implement "text-wrapped" tables in OO Writer (see issue 13791) 2. MS Word will somehow support "above spacing" for all table types *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 13791 ***
