Description ecastro 2005-03-06 19:47:31 UTC
The Circles and Ovals toolbar is not listed in View>Toolbars... list. So, it is
impossibel to open this toolbar in Draw.
The consequence is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to draw circle or elipse arcs, or
sectors. Those items are only available from the toolbar, there is no menu item,
nor can be added by modifiying an existing shape. I think this is definitely a
regression bug.

1. drawing circle or elipse arcs or sectors isd still possible with the new
custom shapes. The button basic shapes contains them.
2. Via tools/customize it is still possible to apply the desired functions to
the toolbars.
3. in impress this bar is still available.

Closed. Thanks for your help.

Let me reopen the issue for a further discussion.

WQ: 1. drawing circle or elipse arcs or sectors isd still possible with the new
custom shapes. The button basic shapes contains them.

EC: NO, the basic shapes contains circles and pies, but not arcs. Arcs are
lines, circunference with out the disk filling. Arcs have ends that may have
decorations (arrowheads et al.)

You correctly indicated that Impress do have this toolbar, so why not Draw?. Now
in OOo 2.0 beta Circles and Ovals toolbar do exists, but you cannot make it
visible within Draw (you can in Impress). Conversely, "Arrows" toolbar is
available in View>Toolbars in Draw, but not in Impress. Why do existing toolbars
should remain not hidden but "uncallable" from certain applications, if that
application do can manage those objects?

I think that at least "additional" or "extra" toolbars should be available for
install (make it visible) from each OOo component (Draw, Impress etc), so all
toolbars should have an entry in the View>Toolbars list, within all
applications. In that way, any user may use any tool at his desire.
I think that this is simply a matter of a forgotten item in the list, easily
fixable.

This is related to issue 44246

Really both arise from an error in the View>Toolbars menu. This item should show
a list of all available toolbars that contains objects managed by a given
application. Draw and Impress both do use arrows, circles, arcs etc. Even Writer
can manage them. I think this list should contain all toolbars predefined in
OOo. Let the user decide which of them make visible or dock. If a toolbar is not
in thar list, it cannot be made visible and usable, even if the user knows it
exists (because he uses it in other application). This is at least confusing, a
clear inconsistency, and, for me, a cause of user frustation.
Comment 6 wolframgarten 2005-05-19 13:49:31 UTC
The circle and oval functions can be reconfigurated using the customize function
of the toolbar. This functions are available.
Since these are basic drawing functions they should at least appear in both
applications in the view/toolbar listing.
So there is only the circle and oval toolbar to be reconfigured for the draw
application to appear in view/toolbar menu.

@all:

This is a very old issue.

In Impress, there is no method to link in either the Circles & Ovals nor the
Rectangles sub-toolbars. Recommend that these be sub-ordinated to the Drawing
toolbar.

In Draw, neither of these two toolbars are available and should be to match
functionality of other available products.

My god... I just realize this simple bug was opened in 2005 and is not solved
yet ! I really shall give up OO.

Reset to default owner because no progress since years.
Set developer difficulty to "easy".

Hint: Look for the existing entries and add the missing entry similar. For the toolbar it is an .uno:EllipseToolbox. If changing the menu is to difficult at the beginning, start with correcting the toolbar.

I want to take this issue to resolve. I don't have the proper rights to "Take". So provide me the permissions to assign it to me.

Hi Ankit, you now have "edit-bugs", "can-confirm" and "qa-team" rights in this issue tracker, so you can e.g. assign this bug to yourself.

Some tips originally sent to the dev list, but better palced here: as a first step, you will want that View - Toolbars in Draw contains "Circles and Ovals", as it happens in Impress. To check where this is defined, start by searching "Circles and Ovals" (with the quotes) in Opengrok http://opengrok.adfinis-sygroup.org/source/ after setting "Project" (right hand side) to "aoo-trunk": your results are http://opengrok.adfinis-sygroup.org/source/search?q=%22Circles+and+Ovals%22&defs=&refs=&path=&hist=&project=aoo-trunk and you will see (among other references) two very similar files, one for Draw and one for Impress. Start your investigation from there, and if you have any doubts ask here in the issue.
