Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 4449
missing language settings for paragraphs
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:21 UTC
In the paragraph menu there's no possibility to set the language for a certain paragraph. First I thought it would not be possible to set a language for just one paragraph but if you have installed an English and a German spell dictionary, and you type a German paragraph you can select the language when you press the right mouse key on a German word and myspell recogniced the word from the (German) dictionary. However selecting the paragraph language in the paragraph menue should be possible, too.
It is: *For one selection: - Select the text - Format - Character - [Font] - Language *Over a defined style: - in the Stylist - Create a new paragraph style (Ex: "German") - choose the language in its tab page [Font]

both of your examples don't match. It's not possible to set the *paragraph* langauage. You wrote about arbitrary text's language and about a predefined style. I mean a manual paragraph language setting. This is missing in the paragraph dialoge, though OO allows this to do (it's only indirectly possible via the spellchecker's suggestion to change the paragraph languiage)
ES -> FT: The real prioblem is to know if it makes sense to have the same tab pages under "Format - Paragraph" than in the the paragraph style properties. Do we want to allow [Font], [Font Effects], [Position] and [Asian Layout] also for hard paragraph formatting?
I've corrected the settings for Platform, OS, IssueType and Component. And: I don't think that any character attributes should be provided in the paragraph dialog.
this is still not possible with 1.1beta1. Anyone doing something on this issue? once more, because some people have written offtopic stuff here: In the paragraph dialog one should be able to specify the language, so that hyphenation and spelling can be adjusted for a paragraph which is in a different language than the rest of the document.
Please note: A paragraph never has a language! A single word has (hence the language setting at "Character"). A complete document normally of course has also a standard language. If you want combine diffenrrent language seperated by language than please use styles for it (just create a paragraph style with your desired language).
