Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 44761
Put a link in the help menu to link to the documentation website
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:34:23 UTC
I think it would be a neat feature to have a link under the help menu to go to the documentation web site, http://documentation.openoffice.org. This would, perhaps, help some users find the answers to their problems quicker. Maybe also just a general link to the OOo site and the FAQs. Not too many, or perhaps make a secondary menu, like the recently used files are, for more links.

set target 2.0.1; feature -> enhancement. hopefully i don't upset anybody with this, my intention is just to mark this issue for developers' attention to have this implemented as soon as possible as i think all of us would benefit from having our users access additional help on the openoffice.org website more frequently, thus reducing traffic on maillists, forums and eventually IZ, too.
Sorry, but for OOo 2.0.1 there are not enough resources.
An OOo menu extension with "OOo Forums" or "OOo Links" could be provided to show in the menu bar. See the "Ubuntu Forums Menu" extensions for Firefox.
Pointing to external entities such as OOoForums, Unbuntu et cetera bypasses what we at the doc project create, have created and continue to do so. If your suggestion is implemented then I suggest that the doc project has outlived its usefullness and should be shut down. However if you goal is to enhance what we do as a part of OOo, then I suggest you only use links to OOo project, mailing lists and whatever else is pertinent. Users looking for stuff outside OOo can use any of the search engines to locate what they need.
Ger, please have a look at the "Ubuntu Forums" extension for Firefox. You'll find it very valuable once you are a Ubuntu Linux user. And it consists of links to the Ubuntu community. So I proposed "OOo Forums" as a name suggestion, not because there is a forum with almost this name, but to resemble the "Ubuntu Forums" extension name. That's the only reason. And yes, such a list of links to *all* the OOo community forums, documentation sites, other helpful Web sites, and more would be really useful.
Okay. Now I see what you were trying to express. This type of interface is something to which I wouldn't object. I do think we should pick a better name though :-) No suggestion at this time.
