Description timsoft 2005-03-11 17:29:35 UTC
the message
Setup was unable to find the file ".
is recieved when running setup.exe
Comment 1 timsoft 2005-03-11 17:32:39 UTC
after this message, setup quits.
I have checked the setup.ini file and can't spot anything obvious.
Comment 2 Olaf Felka 2005-03-11 20:33:41 UTC
Not reproducible with the downloaded version from http://ftp.stardiv.de/pub/
OpenOffice.org/. Have you checksummed your download? Where have you downloaded
from?
Comment 3 timsoft 2005-03-11 21:12:37 UTC
downloaded from the ukmirror download site. ftp.ukc.mirrorservice.org
checksum OOo_2.0beta_Win32Intel_install.zip 48d9f76e904a434f0e51ae3167fd783f
matches that on the http://download.openoffice.org/2.0beta/md5sums.html
I can't see an md5 matching and still getting incorrect binaries. The zip file
extracted ok as well.
Comment 4 Olaf Felka 2005-03-11 21:57:03 UTC
I can't see any OOo downloads on ftp.ukc.mirrorservice.org. Please retry from
http://ftp.stardiv.de/pub/OpenOffice.org/stable/2.0beta/ and give the complete
url.
Comment 5 Olaf Felka 2005-03-12 08:43:21 UTC
I found the version on http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/ny1.mirror.openoffice.
org/stable/2.0beta/ and it installed fine on Win98. I think it depends on your
Win98.
Comment 6 timsoft 2005-03-12 09:27:38 UTC
I downloaded from
http://ftp.stardiv.de/pub/OpenOffice.org/stable/2.0beta/OOo_2.0beta_Win32Intel_i
nstall.zip as suggested, same md5 sum, and same problem.
the pc is running win98SE, 512mb ram, >2gb free disk space, all the windows
updates applied, dx9c etc.
Still a show stopper. I can test it on other win98 machines later and report
back
Comment 7 Olaf Felka 2005-03-12 10:23:44 UTC
Yes, but it's only a stopper for you, there is no such feedback in the mailing
lists nor in this issue tracker. That's why I assume that tis belongs to your
system and not to the installer. Please start setup.exe with /L <path to
filename.txt> to create a logfile. Maybe that can give some enlightment.

below is the logfile I get. from running setup.exe /L logfile.txt

Comment 9 timsoft 2005-03-12 15:16:53 UTC
I have sucessfully installed openoffice 2.0beta on a different win98SE machine
with identical hardware to the one which does not work.
That at least shows that the zip file downloaded and the extracted files are
ok, because they are the same. It must be something to do with windows
installer (MSI), or something completely different. Any more ideas?
Comment 10 timsoft 2005-03-12 18:57:02 UTC
I've solved the problem.
The MSI 2 installation on the machine with the problem was in some way
corrupted. I spotted it because the openofficeorg1979.msi file did not have the
usual icon. Re-installing msi 2 corrected the problem and the setup runs fine
now. Thanks for the help.
I don't know if it is possible to detect a slightly corrupted msi2 install, and
offer to reinstall it if that is the case. If so, that would remove that
problem occuring for anyone. - maybe if it isn't worth the effort, but if some
other users get the same problem, the solution could be recorded in a FAQ.

Thank you for your patience with OOo. I think you should bring up your topic to
users@openoffice.org. There you'll find the right people for discussing wether
to add this to the FAQ or not.

A defect MSI causes trouble :-(
