Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 45064
Bengali is not set for OO 2.0 Beta
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:50:56 UTC
Well, there are lots of problems with OO 2 Beta with Bangla language. I found the problems in OO 1.1.4 and when I download the latest beta release, I found they are not sorted. There is no Bangla/Bengali present in Language Options. Also no locale for bn-BD. Officially bn-BD locale was submitted to Unicode (CLDR), which can be found from http://www.jtcsv.com/cgibin/locale-bugs/?findid=522 If possible, please include it by the final release. As mentioned in: http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=45049 When I switch keyboard and start typing Bengali it shows garbage boxes, it cannot detect the installed Bengali fonts automatically. But if we manually select a Bengali font, it doesn't take the Danda (U+0964) & Double Danda (U+0965) from that selected font. By default it brings the Danda and Double danda from Windows's default Devanagari font Mangal. If I remove Mangal from the system’s font folder, it shows boxes. (Mentioned in http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=45048 ) Like Danda and Double Danda, all these signs . , < > / ? ' @ ; : ] } { [ + = - _ # ~ ! " £ $ % ^ & * ( ) ` comes from Latin font. They should come from Latin font as the works in M$ Office, but the problem is, sometime it becomes garbage, typing on the fly. Please see http://www.ekushey.org/openoffice/bangla_garbage.png I found the dialog boxes are not showing Bangla. I tried to save a Bangla named file and found this: http://www.ekushey.org/openoffice/save_box.png If this happens, then we cannot find Bangla after translating the OO interface into Bangla.

Hi, I reassign this issue to the native-lang project, so that your voice can be properly heard; it looks quite lost here.
Please file proper issues, one bug per issue and assign to people who work on Bengali localizations.
native-lang is not the proper place for this issue. I would like to understand the problem since even the bengali leads have trouble understanding what it is... Also, Pavel is right there are at least 2 different issues here. Let's discuss this on the dev@l10n list.
closing as requested.
Really closing, not just resolved fixed. For the records: request as per discussion in http://l10n.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=dev&msgId=2356979
