Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 47809
Emphasis mark like "-". long accent in japanese romaji
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
In the Character > Font Effects, we have choice of some Emphasis marks, namely Dot, Circle, Disc, Accent. Would it be possible, in a future version, to add a horizontal bar, something like "-" (without quotes, of course). Numerical digits with a vertical bar above are normally used to indicate negative values of some indices and is the long accent for japanese romaji
Reassigned to SBA.
SBA->Kaiku: Thanks for supporting OpenOffice.org. SBA->FT: Please take over, Thank you.
FT: Yes, it would.

The Japanese long accent should properly be entered as a macron. It is already supported (since OOo 1.0) if the user's IME supports entering macrons, or if the user uses "Insert special characters". Provided that the font also supports macrons, too, of course. However, in any case, this looks like a dup of issue 5991, or the two can be merged somehow. Personally I think 5991's analysis (i.e., the line in technical literature is an overline instead of an emphasis mark) is more correct.
