Description windl 2005-05-13 13:52:08 UTC
I have created a text document with several screenshots that I had converted to
64-color-indexed PNG. The PNG files were linked (not embedded) to the document.
When editing, the pages look OK, but after PDF export ypou cannot read anything
on the screenshots. Effective DPI for the screenshots would be 144 (50% scale
factor).
The problem happened with Staroffice 7 Product Update 4, but I'm sure you can
match that to OOo.

Please provide some samples to evaluate, thanks.
Comment 3 windl 2005-05-17 07:42:30 UTC
OK, additional info: The PDF is unreadable only if PDF export options had been
set to "optimize for screen output" (default). I'll attach an example (ZIP) with
the following contents: PNG graphics file, SXW document, two PDFs (one for
print, one for screen optimization).

It is well known from other issues (see issue 20327 or even issue 10388 an
others, that the result of image export in 1.1.x could be better, and that
lowest export quality normally can not be used for documents containing images.

closing issue as duplicate.

@windl: please try the latest beta for OOo 2.0. The issue with image compression
in pdf export has been adressed in 2.0 and should work just fine.
