Description shmuelh 2005-05-18 13:51:39 UTC
Select part of a text (i.e., it is highlighted). Try to Replace something only
within that Selected part. OO ignores the selection and Replaces everything in
the whole document. This is counter-intuitive, as you might want to only Replace
words within the Selected passage. I find it is irrelevant whether I use Replace
or Replace All. In both cases the program considers the whole document and not
only the Selected passage.

Reassigned to SBA.

Further related problem: If you had Selected a passage and the press CTRL-F, the
entire passage goes into the Search string. Even though you may replace this
with something else as the Search string, the program ignores that.
For example, If I had the following part of a documented Selected - "1 2 3," and
I delete the "1 2 3" in the Search box and replace it with "1," Replace will
treat it as if "1 2 3" was still the Search string, even though I had modified it.
This is true in the 2.0 beta as well.

1) Replace in selection: There is a check box "Current selection only" for this
purpos under [More optiona]

2) The example with 1 2 3: I don't understand this problem. Please add a sample
document with a step by step description.

Further, 1 problem = 1 issue, please. We cannot handle multiple problems in 1 issue.

I'm attaching "browning.sxw."

Do the following: Select the first few lines (I selected 4 lines). Now using
Search and Replace, try to Replace "duchess" with (e.g., "duke"). The entire
four lines disappear, and are replaced by the single word "duke." Intuitively,
the single word "duchess" should have been replaced by the word "duke."

not reproducible with OOo 1.1.4, not reproducible with OOo 1.9m111 on linux.

I doubt that you tested on more than one OS, so please name your operating
system and give a more detailed step-by-step instruction.
Comment 7 shmuelh 2005-06-27 19:00:45 UTC
Sorry, we Windows people forget that there are other OS out there.

I'm using Windows XP.
Comment 8 eric.savary 2005-06-27 22:11:29 UTC
Tested also on WinXP with OOo 1.1.4 and src680m106.
Not reproducible.
As I said, please check the option "current selection only".
