Description rebeccayates 2005-05-25 20:27:37 UTC
An unrecognised word containing an underscore, such as "dt_datetime", is
considered to be two separate words. It is spellchecked as such, highlighting
both "dt" and "datetime" as misspellings. I would like an option to treat
underscores as part of the word and not as whitespace when spellchecking.

Context: I was writing a report on some code which included a number of
filenames and variable names in this format and wanted to be able to add the
whole name to the dictionary.

I was able to reproduce the bug described by rebeccayates in OpenOffice Writer3.3 version.

I followed the navigational steps listed below to reproduce the defect -
- Open OpenOffice writer application
- Enter text "dt_datetime"
- Select Tools>Spelling and Grammar from Menu bar and Click on Spelling and Grammar to initiate spell check.
- Spelling window is displayed. Spell checker finds dt_datetime as incorrect word and provides suggestions for dt and datetime separately. First "dt" is highlighted in RED and suggestions are provided in the "Suggestions" box.
- Click ADD or IGNORE, then "datetime" is highlighted in RED and suggestions are provided in the "Suggestions" box.

Actual Result - User doesn't have the ability to add the complete word "dt_datetime" to the dictionary.

I've attached screenshots of this bug for your reference in document named OOWriterBug.odt.

Expected Results - Unrecognized word containing an underscore should be treated as a single word by the spell checker so the user has the ability to add this unrecognized word to the dictionary.

FYI - I've also performed a similar test in Microsoft word 2010 and this bug doesnt exist in MS Word. I've attached test results "MSWORDTest.docx".
