Description haui 2005-05-29 20:41:14 UTC
Create a new presentation, enter the following text in the first line of a
slides text box:

This is a text for for deletion testing.

Place the cursor directly after the second "for" (| marks the cursor here):

This is a text for for| deletion testing.

Now press Ctrl-Backspace. The result (correct) result is:

This is a text for | deletion testing.

There are now spaces around the cursor, one at the left and one at the right.
Now press Ctrl-Backspace again. The (unexpected) result is the following:

This is a text for |deletion testing.

The space at the right of the cursor is deleted (instead of the space and word
to the left). I would have expected the following result:

This is a text | deletion testing.

The impression from my last slide-editing session was that there are
circumstances, where more than just a space is deleted from the right of the
cursor, but I'm now unable to reproduce this phenomenon.

Surprisingly, Writer has no such problems. Are there really two separate text
edition engines in Writer and Presentation? Is this a bug or a feature?

Please have a look.

When fixing this, please consider Issue 51051 in one go.

Can yo resolve it in 2.0.1?
Comment 6 heavy 2005-10-20 23:41:37 UTC
I can definitely confirm this bug in the 2.0 final release under Linux x86...I
have also noticed this bug on the release candidates as well. It appears to only
be a problem in Impress, but I have not done extensive testing in the other
programs. I believe it impacts both control+backspace and control+delete. It is
very annoying. :-)

It is. For those little "things" that really makes you mad when using OOo, I
created a wiki page to get more attention to them. Feel free to add others :-)

Just for info, some related problems:
Issue 23872 - Deleting the space with ctrl+backspace/delete
Issue 50014 - Ctrl backspace (under rare circumstances) deletes to the right of
the cursor
Issue 51051 - Ctrl-delete deletes to the left, if a space follows the cursor

Comment 9 Regina Henschel 2014-10-19 20:06:25 UTC
The wrong behavior remains after applying the fix for issue 23872. In Writer (which is issue 23872 about) the behavior is as expected. So this is not a duplicate of issue 23872.
