Description umr5174 2005-06-14 15:49:28 UTC
This bug as already been described as soon as for OOo 1.0.0 , three years ago :
issue 5919
but astonishingly is still there.
At least Eq fields should be converted in OOo formulae,
but this would be the poor man's solution.
The reason I use Eq fields is their characters accept text attributes (including
styles) the same way text does (and together with neighbouring text) :
one doesn't need to open one by one each and every formula to modify font, size
So a true solution would be to provide such features for OOo formulae, and to
convert Eq fields into such formulae, with an "inherited style and attribute
switch" on.

> In OpenOffice Writer 1.1.2 formula (=sum) in table is lost (but original value
of sum is displayed), when I save my document in Word 97/2000/XP format and
reopen this document from .doc file. Is this the same bug or I should report
another ?

This is not the same problem, so you should file a new issue. You can cc me to
the new issue or send me a mail with the ID, so I'll go and verify it.

The second sentence of OOo web site main page is " Compatible with all other
major office suites (...) ".
So not importing MS Word 97 Eq fields is a non negligible compatibility defect,
not only a requirement.

As verry correct pointed out by the reporter, the issue already exists. So .. no

Until EQ fields are converted, they should at least NOT BE IGNORED but be
replaced with something like '##EQ', so that the user can find those flags and
replace them 'by hand', using OpenOffice Math.
