Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 50839
Input field without fill-in-contents is not clickable
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:26:12 UTC
Ooo 2.0 beta 680m104 version. When using input fields i tend to let them empty on a template to let the user fill them in by clicking on the gray vertical tiny field. Name: i fill in, contents i leave it empty A trick could be to enter at least a space to make them clickable, but it's nevertheless an issue that should be avoided. Tnx.

Reassigned to ES.
Indeed, an input field with an empty description cannot be edited by clicking on it except when this input field is placed at beginning of a line (there appears then a special mouse pointer on over). But it is anytime possible to place the cursor on the field and to press Ctrl+Shift+F9
The description is not completely accurate. Empty input fields are editable if a) they're the only thing in a paragraph b) there's at least one character after the input field. So a better workaround than putting a space into the input field (which the user may delete) is to put a space AFTER the input field.

Retested on OOo 2.1/Win XP Additional comment: The first field in the Test example shows - see screenshot - that even when putting a space in front or behind (which on itself is also not obvious) the empty field - ready to be filled in - is not showing any signs of being clickable. The 'click-finger' cursor is not visible. This is of course not a critical bug but rather a grave usability issue - no matter the workarounds - but it remains a burden when trying to convince stubborn MS Word users.
