Description datawolf 2005-06-17 16:49:15 UTC
This is an MS Office compatibility issue. The documents described here were
created with MS Word 2002 SP3.

A text box created in the header with default settings does not obscure normal
text or images in the header (when viewed with OOo). In the main body of the
document, it does obscure normal text and images.

In MS Office, it obscures normal text and images whether the text box is in the
header or the main body.

To clarify, a text box in the header should obscure header text, but not main
body text. A text box in the main body should obscure main body text.

In OOo, in the header, the text appear intermingled.

Screenshots are at:
http://www.uncultured.org/bill/bugs/ooffice-textbox-in-header.html

To reproduce:
-In MS Word, create a new document.
-Edit the header, and type in some text.
-Insert > Text Box, and place it in the header partially covering the original text.
-Type some text into the text box.
-Notice that the original text is hidden.
-Save file
-Open in OOo
-Notice that the original text is *not* hidden.

MRU->OD: In Word, a text box with wrapping "in front of text" will cover the
Header content but not the textbody content. The textbox will be imported "in
background" to simulate the behaviour for textbody. But this will make the
header content be visible.

Only solution I see: implemnt a compatibility mode for this.

Hi. I am also having a similar issue.

A Word document created in MS Office 2003, with text and an image in the header,
where in Word the "Wrapping Style" of the image has been set to "In front of text".

When the same file is opened by OpenOffice.org (2.0RC), wrap setting of the
image becomes "Through" with option "In background" turned on. "In background"
should be turned off, corresponding to MS Word's "In front of text" wrapping style.

If the file is saved again in OO.o, and open up in Word, wrapping style will be
changed to "Behind text".

The same file opens fine in OpenOffice.org 1.1.4. Wrap setting sets to "Through"
with no "In background". However the image size is altered.

See attached MS Word document as example.
