Yes, I know this issue has been submitted and closed previously, but I am not
satisfied the problem of exporting to WordPerfect format cannot be done without
using proprietary software. I urge the development team to find a way to do it.

We perfectly understand that, once the WordPerfect import integrated, people are
keen to see the WordPerfect export too. Nevertheless, I would like to clarify
what the development sequence is likely to be:
1) First priority is to fix bugs, especially crasher ones and those that make
loose text information when importing a document.
2) Second priority is to improve the import filter (add support of styles,
images, etc.) and put the import of different supported formats (WP3.x for mac,
WP4.2, WP5.x and WP6+) at the same level in what concerns the features converted.
3) Third priority, once the previous ones are exhausted, is to add WordPerfect
export filter.
The reason is that it would not be nice if openning a WP document in OOo and
saving it "As" WP document after modifications, meant a lot of formatting lost.
Nevertheless the libwpd.sf.net team has this feature in their mind and working
on it. In the order of priorities, naturally :-)

I would be willing to tolerate some loss of formatting (especially of features I
hardly ever use) to be able to save most ordinary documents in WP format. Let's
not have the perfect be the enemy of the good enough.

This suggests a general solution for imperfect enhancements: Offer them as
"testing" plugins that users could optionally add to their packages and use at
their own risk. They might even be thus motivated and enabled to further develop
the (open source) code for that enhancement, separated out so that it would be
easier for people to work on it without having to learn too much about the rest
of OO. It is difficult now for newcomers to enter the development effort, and
such plugins would facilitate that.

You are all encouraged to visit my website http://www.constitution.org to get a
sense of the purposes to which I put OO.

Folks, I would like to weigh in on this issue. This is my first post so my apologies if my comments are out
of place. I am working with a muli-million dollar law office that is interested in changing platforms. I had
no idea that WordPerfect was so prevelant in the Law industry. Apparently, much of the real estate work in
the US is done in WP for some reason. The singular issue we have at this time is being able to deliver a full
WP workflow on a platform that is has not been developed for in many years. If it were possible to get a
reasonably good WP export filter developed I am sure MANY law firms would be VERY interested in
switching and contributing to OO. I have access to scores of WP documents for testing and I have several
attorneys and secretaries who would be at your disposal to test any code, however basic, you could
provide. If there is anyway to I could assist in moving this up the feature request chain please contact me
directly.

Would also like to see this as I work with Dr. Offices who also have been using
WordPerfect for years. The reason Law and Medical have been using WordPerfect
is because it continued to cater to touch typists who use keyboard shortcuts
while Word continued to move away from this and increase price. The products
were also at one point sold with Legal and Medical specific dictionaries so the
medical and legal groups had many reasons to retain WordPerfect. Medical and
Law are groups who are very cost concious and having a way to transition to new
platforms while they run both, is critical to being able to successfully move
them.
