Description matep 2005-06-29 08:59:16 UTC
I want to report a little bug: When i try to open a document stored on a network
path (the network is a Windows 2000 Server with Windows XP clients) i can't open
it directly (with a double click). I thing the problem is made when Open Office
try to use the network address to open the file (like
\\server_name\resource_name\file_name.doc).

I am running OOo 2.0 on XP with files located on a Win 2000 Server and I am able
to open them fine. The file drive is mapped on my machine. It might be worth
checking the paths under Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > Paths. Check what My
Documents is set as. Mine is set to the mapped drive.

Hi, I've exprienced the same issue on 2.0.3 and 2.0.4, I'll add what additional
information I can.

Double clicking a ".xls" or ".ods" file on a network path (double slash) starts
Open Office (just the splash screen) and then nothing!

If I use the open file dialog (having opened Calc by some other means), browse
to the network located file, then the file opens with out a problem.

If I map the network drive to a local drive, then double clicking works just
fine.

The problem occurs whether the network file is on Win2K, XP or Server2003.
The problem occurs whether the machine double clicking the file is Win2K or XP
(sorry not installed open office on the company server!)

Sorry I've not tried other files, to test whether this is a Calc problem or all
programs.

There is a similar problem saving the file. If I open the file using the open
file dialog then I can't save the file and I can't "save as" to a network drive
either. I get an error that the file path does exist, Sorry I've not grabbed
the screens for this one yet, but when I find the correct "issue" I'll add what
details I can.

I'll do some more testing and get back to this issue.

Cheers

Hi,

This is not just a "Calc" problem "Writer" has exactly the same problem, though
writer does save to network drives without problems?

Cheers Scott

For what it's worth, I can't reproduce this issue on our local network (using
seperately a Samba 3.0.20b server). I can open networked documents via
double-clicks fine regardless of: (1) the name, (2) whether or not the drive is
mapped to a local drive or simply specified in Explorer by \\computer\folder\,
and (3) whether or not OpenOffice is set up to use XP native or OOo dialogs.

I did a bit more research. It turns out this issue has already been reported.
