Description derekcvtc 2005-07-10 20:40:11 UTC
I tried to paste the page http://computer.howstuffworks.com/mouse.htm/printable
into OpenOffice for a report by selecting from the "Main > Computer >
Peripherals" links to the "How Gyroscopes Work" link at the bottom then using
Ctrl + C then Ctrl + V to paste it into OpenOffice. I did the same thing into
Word 2003 and it worked fine, but OpenOffice stopped after three pages and
wasn't showing pictures. There was a big space of the first page also. When I
saved in Word and opened in OpenOffice it wasn't right either. The only app
that did it right was word. I will attach both files. Thanks. Love the Suite.

MRU->ES: please have a look. It was done on OO 1.1.4, so the problem "...stopped
after 3 pages" should be covered by issue 2109 (table cells cannot break across
pages) and work correctly in OO 2.0 builds.
But please have an eye on the "not showing pictures" mentioned above.

1) missigng pages: issue 2109

2) missing pictures: do you copy/paste from IE? -> issue 14613.
Else check that you have set the proxies under "Tools - Options - Internet - Proxy"

I checked with 2.0 (1.9.m113) German version WIN XP: [680m113(Build8930)],
1.1.4 (German) WIN XP: [645m52 (Build 8824)] and also WORD 2000: poor results
for _all_ copying printable page from Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1;
de-AT; rv:1.8a3) Gecko/20040817
One of the reasons might be that that the page seems to contain some crippled code:
<http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fcomputer.howstuffworks.com%2Fmouse.htm%2Fprintable>

The result looked fine on screen when I pasted to a new 2.0 html-document, but
because of bug from issue 44896 I can not check .odt to where I exported the result.

I can not confirm that the result in WORD is better than in OOo. The bad code of
the page might justify a lower priority?
Comment 8 eric.savary 2005-07-12 08:42:25 UTC
If I corretly understand your description, the problems you found in OOo are the
same in Word. So I don't see where the problem is...

I already gave you two reasons why it may look bad (table layout + missing image)

Plus, please note:
1) reports refering to different problems are invalid: 1 problem, one issue

2) due to a lack of ressources, we don't fix minor issues in HTML anymore. Only
crashes and huge regressions can be fixed.

Closing as duplicate of issue 48463 (Allow table to split across pages for HTML)
