Description phillg 2005-07-29 15:56:09 UTC
Steps to reproduce:
Create a doc with a database field in. Go to File and Print and a question pops
up asking you if you want to print a form letter, click yes. In this form
letter dialog there is no option to change the printer or printer settings.
These basic features are present in OOo 1.1.x

Confirmed in m114, m116, m118 and m121 on several Linux installs

Comment 2 h.ilter 2005-08-11 15:19:01 UTC
HI->OS: The difference between 645 and 680:
645: The print dialog appears after the MailMerge dialog
680: The print will be executed after the MailMerge dialog

The question is, is it intent or defect?

if this should be intended? What's the intention? :-)

JA: as this issue seems to be a regression it cannot be set to 'later'.
Retargetted to 2.0.2
Comment 9 holgerbruenjes 2005-11-10 17:34:01 UTC
Yes, it was a problem with this. I work with HylaFAX on Server and i have
multiple Fax Device and so i will chance the fax printer device. But the chance
printer diaolg are missing. And so come the Serienfax out of the
StandardPrinter. verry good.

This was resolved as WORKSFORME under issue 45083, but I believe it is a loss of
functionality.

My invoices/estimates/letterheads etc. talk to an OOo spreadsheet for the
address/salutation data. Some of the time I want to output a document to my
printer, sometimes to a PDF printer and others to a fax, and being able to
specify which printer in the dialogue was very handy in 1.1.x.
Comment 12 Mathias_Bauer 2006-01-23 13:09:41 UTC
We will not finish this task in the 2.0.2 time frame -> retargetted to 3.0
Comment 13 maccy 2006-01-23 15:24:42 UTC
this is a showstopper for most real professional office users. This is no
problem for most home users, right. The loss of functionality for serail letters
(which is a major task in professional offices) is huge. It's a petty to see
this regession bug being retargetted again and again. All one can do is
reccomend professional office users with a need for serial letter functionality
to use OOo 1.1.x (or a different Office Suite)
Comment 14 pasco 2006-01-23 16:52:40 UTC
Without trying to throw in a pointless "me too", I agree with maccy that this is
an important loss of functionality for professional OOo users. Most days I have
to work around this bug which is extremely frustrating and it will harm my
efforts to push OOo to my business clients, all of which rely on smooth mail
merging.

Also this doesn't just affect OS Linux as set, as I see the same on Windows.

Comment 16 Mathias_Bauer 2006-01-24 11:53:32 UTC
As I wrote, we will not finish the fix for this issue in time because we have
more important things to do. This is something we can't change.

There is also a possible workaround to circumvent the problem. Obviously there
is some interest in getting this fixed so 2.0.3 seems appropriate to me.

How can this 'obvious' intrest better be shown than with 5 duplicates of this
issue under different numbers and loads of comments? This IS an important loss
of functionality and it IS a regression bug! AND it is a bug on Linux and
Windows machines, as issue 55504 and 58355 showed. As long as the
MailMergeAssistent doesn't have all the functionality that the normal MailMerge-
dialogue offers one has to use the normal un-assisted way. And to re-insert a
dialogue that is present in all sorts of other different contexts and that
existed in the prior version shouldn't be so tremendously time-consuming, should
it? Could it be that OOo/SUN underestimates the extend of mailmerge usage in
professional/educational offices?
Comment 18 Mathias_Bauer 2006-01-25 11:05:08 UTC
Sorry, I don't understand the rant. I agreed that there is interest and
especially the duplicates made me think that. I can't see a contradiction to
your opinion.

For this reason I changed the target to 2.0.3. As I wrote, 2.0.2 is impossible
because we will not be able to fix the problem in the given time frame.
Comment 19 Oliver Specht 2006-04-12 13:06:32 UTC
Issue 25686 made the printing asynchronous. This prevented the printer settings
dialog.
Fixed in cws os80 in
