Description skelem 2005-08-04 18:21:00 UTC
Create two objects, e.g., circles, positioned diagonally from each other, e.g.,
at 2o'clock and 8o'clock.
Select the one at 2o'clock.
Add-select the one at 8:00.
Align on vertical centers.
The objects both move to some point between both of them.
This is close to useless when aligning things in a diagram.

Instead, the first one should be the anchor and not move after alignment.
All other selected items should be aligned with respect to the anchor.

This way I can position new items with respect to already-positioned items
without disturbing the things that have already been placed.
Locking does this, except that locking is inconvenient: it's several extra
steps, it has to be "done" and then "undone". If you use the anchor metaphor,
the anchor stays an "anchor" for only as long as there's a selection. It's easy
to move on to the next items and easy to change anchor for the next selection.

Changed to enhancement.

It's been almost two years since I submitted this.
Is there any chance of fixing this so that I do all my work in Openoffice
instead of in Visio?

right click 2 O'clock object - Position and Size... - Position and Size - Protect - Position - OK
