Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 5308
Spell Checker doesn't work.
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:56:16 UTC
The spell check does not work. I have a document loaded with autospellchecker turned on and even if I deliberately miss-spell something. it is not high lighted. If I then go and run a manual spell check, it tells me that the document is correct. THe spell checker seemed to work for a while after downloade openoffice, and then it just stopped.
Thanks for posting Derek. Does this problem still exist in OO 1.0.1? If it does, can you attach a document that reproduces this problem? Thanks for your interest in OO.
I had been having a similar problem. I only found this issue and issue 5341 which seem to be the same problem. Comments in 5341 suggest changing the Language setting from 'None' to something (e.g., English) in the dropdown in the font tab of Format -> Characters. (By the way, this issue applies to more platforms that Win98.) The bigger question for me now is why does the language get set to 'None' at seemingly random times. But I will post this issue separately if I cannot find something already posted.
Derek and ocking, I cannot reproduce this error on Win NT 4.0 SP6a and OOo 643. Could either of you list step by step instructions or details that I can use to try to recreate the issue? Any details that you think could help us would be great ( language of OOo, etc ).
I'm using Redhat 7.2/GCC2.2.4,Intel, OpenOffice.org1.0.1 Spell checker isn't working for me, either. Any random characters I type in to a new document pass the spelling tests. If I continue again from the beginning, nothing is spellchecked. I've set the Format to "abc" English (USA) (my language), and I didn't see any effect. This is off of a completely new installation (I removed every OpenOffice.org1.0 file and reinstalled to make sure... twice) I've looked around in the bug database, but I don't know what I could have done to break the dang thing.
Try setting the LANG environment variable to the language for your system. Then start OOo.
Since this bug was reported on a OO 1.00 I suggest uprgrading to a newer version like OO1.01. If you don't mind to use non-public developer builds you may even download a 643C build. Provided the language attribute is set correct I do not know of any problem like this in the latest versions.
