The attached rtf document was created by a third-party application which creates
documents by 'mail merging' data in to an rtf template.  The resulting document
(attached) opens correctly in MS Word (showing the correct data in the mail
merge fields), but incorrectly in OpenOffice (the field data is nowhere to be
seen...)

MailMerge fields are currently not supported by OO's RTF filter. 

MRU->FLR: one for you.

Are RTF MailMerge fields already supported in OpenOffice? If not, is there an
estimated date to this issue?
