Description dvhart 2005-10-04 01:22:35 UTC
Also noticed in version 1.1.3 as well as 1.9.79.

When printing drawings like
http://www.dvhart.com/~dvhart/oo_bugs/oo_draw_test.odg, where white text is in a
black object, the result non-intuitive in some, and wrong in others, depending
on the print quality setting:

Print Quality Object Printer Output
Default white on black black square with black text
white on gray gray square with white text

Black and White white on black white box with black text
white on gray white box with black text

Gray Scale white on black black square with black text
white on gray gray square with black text

Note that here the color gray, #0A0A0A, appears really close to black. If
"Black and White" is supposed to print in that outline form, perhaps it should
be called "Outline" or "Draft", but if it's called "Black and White" I would
expect white text on a black background to print as displayed. It also seems
strange that printing in grayscale would convert the white text to black, but
still print it on the near black background. Lastly, and the most important to
me, is that in both "Default" and "Grayscale" quality settings, the white text
is printed as black on the black background, but is left white when printing on
a really dark gray background. Seems to me that most users would expect the
"Default" setting to print white text on a black background if that is what they
drew, and the "Black and White" setting to print a black and white image as it's
displayed as well (again, perhaps this setting should just be given a more
accurate name).

I checked with 2.0 (1.9.m125) German version WIN XP: [680m125(Build8947)] and also
2.0 (1.9.m113) German version WIN XP: [680m113(Build8930)], both with printer
"HP Officejet6110, both with same result: I can confirm those problems. My
result differs a little from those in the first report, I _never_ had a correct
printout from DRAW.

Some further results:
- Printout from draw always more or less black text on black background.
- PDF export from DRAW looks fine.
- If I copy / paste complete slide content to an empty WRITER-page, printout
will look find with correct "colours"
- If I copy / "paste special as GDI metafile" complete slide content to an
empty new DRAW-slide, the problem remains

For default I get white text on a black/gray background. But the rest is
reproducible.
Comment 3 dvhart 2005-10-04 07:57:02 UTC
Is there any more information that I could provide to help you reproduce this?
I've tried this on two similarly equipped systems with two different versions of
of OOo (1.1.3 and 1.9.79) with the same results.

I can _not_ confirm the reported behaviour as a general problem. If I create a
new DRAW document after e reboot of my PC, I can insert text fields similar to
those in 'oo_draw_test.odg', and printout works fine.

But:
----
After I have opened 'oo_draw_test.odg', the color print of OOo and other DRAW
colour functions will be messed up.
For example, I created '2_createdeaftertestpagepoened.odg' (pls see attachment)
after i had opened 'oo_draw_test.odg'. It looks fine, but both images will be
printed in grey (printer function is _not_ "print b/w" or similar.
This behaviour remains for new documents, filled circles or rectangles in new
documents will be printed in grey, but same cicles and rectangles inserted into
existing DRAW documents will be printed quite normal.

I must reboot my WIN-XP-PC before I will be able to create new documents with
normal colour printout behaviour.

Decrease priority because problem seems to exist only for that special document.

Set OS to LINUX, because until now I only see documents with that problem
_created_ on a LINUX PC.

@dvhart: do you use normal OOo distributed OOo version or something special
(self compiled or similar?)

I am using the default packages for Ubuntu Hoary. I first noticed the problem
with version 1.1.3 when my father (running the same software) couldn't get his
business ads to print correctly. Since I found the same problem in documents I
created in 1.9.79, I reported the bug against that version.

I just tried creating a similar document on Debian SID's OOo version 1.1.4 with
the same result: white text prints as black on a black rectangle, white text
prints as white on a #0A0A0A rectangle, using print quality=Default.

This Issue requires more information ('needmoreinfo'), but has not been updated
within the last year. Please re-test with one of the latest versions of OOo -
the problem(s) may have already been addressed. Either use the recent stable
version: http://download.openoffice.org/index.html
or consider trying the new OOo 3 BETA (still in testing):
http://download.openoffice.org/3.0beta/

Please report back the outcome so this Issue may be closed or progressed as
necessary - otherwise it may be Resolved as Invalid in the future. You may also
wish to search for (and note) any duplicates of this Issue that may have
advanced further :
