Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 55824
selection follows tab in tables
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:38:43 UTC
insert a table that has at least two cells. input some text in the first cell. select at least one symbol of this text. press tab. notice how selection follows cursor. this is pretty annoying when working with tables. this also could not be accessibility for keyboard, as this can be more easily achieved with shift & cursor keys.
The question is, which behaviour should be the best here? Completelsy stopping selection mode? Or multiselection of text? A decision is needed here.
i would vote for removal of selection - just like this works in calc. it also is the intuitive for me and seems to conform to used practices - don't keep selection unless modifier key is pressed (shift)
... the intiutive way

When I press TAB key with selected content in the table cell OO selects content of next cell in the row and CONTENT OF PRIMARY CELL and etc. Selection of the previous cells don't disappears. OO must select content of next cell and discard selection of current cell! OO must select content of next cell and discard selection of current cell, after pressing TAB key in the table. attachment http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/47266/Untitled-2.jpg
i just wanted to add that the original oo.org behaviour seems better and more intuitive to me - removal of selection and moving of cursor.
I don't understand the confusion here because this behaviour is not the only domain of OOWriter, so it should follow what is de facto standard here. And this is that navigation key pressed without selection modifier (shift usually) deselects selections. So in this case selection should be canceled and caret should be placed in the next cell. Why is this enhancement? It is OOW defect -- OOW violates pretty well established behaviour.
