Description pavel 2005-10-13 12:23:15 UTC
Hi,

Czech user provided an RTF file:

mila.rtf: Rich Text Format data, version 1, ANSI
-rw-r--r-- 1 pavel users 209057 2005-10-13 13:06 mila.rtf

It is shown as empty in both 1.1.x and current RC2 of 2.0. I can provide both
RTF and .PDF on request. It is an invoice, so I'd prefer to give it to developer
directly. I'm on IRC...

I have the same problem with some RTF Files, when the RTF was created with MS
Word 2000. If i save the RTF Files in Word as .doc and import it in OO 2.0 all
works. If i save it as OpenDocument, it works, but when i export it from
Writer as RTF i cant open it in OpenOffice again. When i open it in Word, the
Layout is waste.

Thats only on documents that use Fieldfunctions or Fieldfunctions in
Fieldfunctions (sorry dont know english word for it) like this shema:

IF bla THEN <-- First Fieldfunction
  bla
else
if bla THEN <-- Secound (Sub) Fieldfunction
    bla
  else
    .... <-- and so on
  END IF
END IF

Which RTF Version does OpenOffice 2.0 use? Is Word 2000 RTF newer as OO
support?

Hi. I have quite similar problems with RTF conversion.
1) a. Open a Sample.doc with OOo (680m146 and older)
   b. Save it in RTF format as Sample1.rtf
   c. Close the file
   d. Open Sample1.rtf file with OOo and it will be "blank"
   e. Open Sample1.rtf file with Microsoft Word and it will be "correct" (but
wrong formatting)

2) a. Open the Sample.doc with OOo
   b. Save it in ODT format
   c. Close the file
   d. Open Sample.odt file (It's OK)
   e. Save it in RTF format as Sample2.rtf
   f. Close it
   g. Open Sample2.rtf file with OOo and it will be garbbished
   h. Open Sample2.rtf filw with Microsoft Word and it will be "correct" (but
wrong formatting), just as Sample1.rtf

OOo 2.0.3 RC6:

1. open Sample.doc
2. save as RTF
3. open Sample.rtf

-> empty file (DOC contains page full of text).
Comment 5 pavel 2006-06-22 09:20:28 UTC

http://tmp.janik.cz/OpenOffice.org/i55911/mila.rtf

I am tracking another bug when I encountered to this issue while making database
queries.

Confirmed as REPEATABLE, used OpenOffice 2.0.3 and Word 2002 (10.6802.6735) SP
3. Here I suppose that I am using different version of Word than user "omvsj".

HOWEVER:
It seeemed to me that in the test of the user "omvsj" phase 2.g. the sample2.rtf
Opened in OpenOffice 2.0.3 is was not garbished. It was an empty document with
one enter.

This seems not be corrected in OpenOffice 2.0.3 since it was in OOo 2.0.3 RC6 as
the user "pjanik" has indicated. However that test description in not precise so
I cannot verify this.

Well, anyway, I continue hunting that another issue from database.
Comment 8 omvsj 2006-09-11 15:31:47 UTC
I've just make the same test to the file Sample.doc using:
-Windows XP Pro SP2 (Spanish version)
-OOo 2.0.3 680m7 Build 9044 (Spanish version)
-Word 2003 (11.6568.6568) SP2 (Spanish version)

The results were the same as expressed on Fri Jan 13.

Answering to user tmjura: In step 2.g the file looks garbished, just as Fri Jan
13 (I've send a picture of it)

Hi.

1.a. Open a Sample.doc with OOo (680m146 and older)
1.b. Save it in RTF format as Sample1.rtf
1.c. Close the file

1.d. Open Sample1.rtf file with OOo and it will be "blank"
- REPEATED => REPEATABLE WITH OpenOffice 2.0.3

1.e. Open Sample1.rtf file with Microsoft Word and it will be "correct" (but
wrong formatting)
- REPEATED => REPEATABLE WITH Word 2002 (10.6802.6735) SP 3 (some English
version)

2.a. Open the Sample.doc with OOo
2.b. Save it in ODT format
2.c. Close the file

2.d. Open Sample.odt file (It's OK)
- OK with OpenOffice 2.0.3

2.e. Save it in RTF format as Sample2.rtf
2.f. Close it

2.g. Open Sample2.rtf file with OOo and it will be garbbished
- NOT OK: IT IS BLANK IN OpenOffice 2.0.3 (Finnish version - does that matter??)

2.h. Open Sample2.rtf filw with Microsoft Word and it will be "correct" (but
wrong formatting), just as Sample1.rtf
- REPEATED => REPEATABLE WITH Word 2002 (10.6802.6735) SP 3 (some English
version)

CONFIRMED again as REPEATABLE.
Your test case is correct - nothing to complain.

This is same as "pjanik" indicated with test in OOo 2.0.3 RC6.
NOT corrected in OpenOffice 2.0.3.

The docx import filter consumed most of our resources in the "interop" area. Due
to that we must retarget this issue. -> 3.x
Comment 14 tmjura 2009-08-11 14:38:28 UTC
Hi agin,

Test:
- open "sample.doc"
- save as RTF
- close RTF
- open RTF.

The same problem again.
The resulting RTF is just an empty page.

TEST info:
- WIN XP SP 2 + latest updates
- OOo 3.1.0
- OOO310m11
- build 9399
- Finnish Language Pack: OOo_3.1.0rc2_20090427_Win32Intel_langpack_fi.exe
