With this document, the fields corrupt the background gray around the document's
printable area. Also, information entered in these boxes is not saved with the
document. Saving this document as a Word file does not preserve the field boxes,
but converts them to plain text of some sort (feature?).

Anyway, I'm pushing OpenOffice in my, um, office and this was the one doc it's
had trouble with so far. Thanks so much!

Thanks for posting this issue Mike.

Your issue with Word text form fields is most likely related to issue 
3029.
