Description redoffice 2005-10-28 09:24:11 UTC
Reproduce Steps:
1. Drag & Drop text containing native language characters throughout the
OpenOffice.org applications.
Checklist -
Text
Fields
Hyperlinks
Graphics with captions
Objects - OLE objects, Chart, Formula, applets, plug-ins

Expected Result:
The text/objects should be displayed correctly. Contents should not be garbled

Actual Result:
the fields inserted in OpenOffice.org Impress can not be displayed correctly
when drag & drop them to OpenOffice.org Calc.

confirmed with OOo 2.0.3RC5, german localization, WinXP + Linux RPM.
Better description to reproduce:

- open a new presentation
- enter some text and insert some fields (e.g. Insert - Field - Date or Page number)
- open a new calc document
- select the text (including fields) in impress
- drag & drop the text to calc

-> Impress fields would be displayed as "?"

(drag & drop to writer will insert the field values correctly. That should work
the same way with clac)

SBA: Because Drag&Drop is an "Ease of use" of Copy&Paste / Cut&Paste, digging
deeper goes via "paste special":
When doing "paste special" (or <Ctrl>+<Shift>+V) in Writer or Calc, then two
formats are offered in this scenario: "Unformatted Text" and "Formatted Text
[RTF]".

So with "paste special", we have these findings:
 - Choosing "Unformatted text" works in Writer and Calc
 - Choosing "Formatted Text [RTF]" fails in Calc as described.
Reason: Drag&Drop always chooses the "best format" so that as little information
as possible is lost (formatting, character attributes etc.).

Note: Same behavior in OOo 2.02 and in SO7 PU6/OOo 1.1.5
Reassigned to OC.
