Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 56980
Set criteria for certification of OOo Users
Last modified: 2013-07-30 02:46:10 UTC
This task is an effort to establish the criteria for certification of training programs for OOo users. There are a number of things that need definition: 1. What should a user know 2. How to control training materials 3. how to vet existing training materials against any set criteria.

hi I think it would be useful to include Angelika Goessler of Vienna. She is at ag@agami.at . She has been doing responsible open source certification of OOo for Vienna and was important in the migration of that city to OOo. Louis
Can you get her openoffice.org name so we can include her. Issue Tracker is reluctant to allow foreign email addresses.

For those of you on the cc list. I think it is time for some more comments. Praticularly with the third level.
I consider that criteria.odt is getting bogged down in the detail and that the scope, aims and objectives need to be decided first. There are a number of competency and criteria available that we may be able to draw from rather than re-inventing the wheel. For example, ItrainOnline, ICDL and OpenICDL, and some government bodies. Also, I think "control" is the wrong word in point 2 if we want a number of groups to develop training materials. Perhaps OOo can approve training materials like the ICDL based on whether they cover a syllabus. Note: The ICDL does not get involved in creating the training material.
On second thoughts, why don't OOo create the training materials to be approved by the ICDL. See: http://www.ecdl.com/main/approval.php Their syllabus is vendor neutral and OpenOffice.org now has Base, so we would be one of the few training material/courseware providers to be able to provide material for the Databases part of the syllabus. Also, there are lots of certification centres for ICDL.
Thanks Louis but I have to correct: I was not important for the migration. But we have had the luck that some responsible persons involved in the migration joined our UserGroup and that we have intensive contact now. To the task content: I do not understand point 2 and 3 We had a German ECDL issue which was closed this year when we have realised, that we were not able to provide training material as a community. To my opinion in the mean time we have good training material enough by publishers. I would say we have tons :) I have lost the URL at the moment,... But in many coutries we have real problems: In some countries for example the ECDL/ICDL is only available in kind of a machine test. Often it is too expansive to implement a machine test for a new Office software. So our main focus should be, to have manual test sheets. Thats a factor for marketing and PR work. The second thing is to have qualified centers for doing the tests. Thats the main issue here - many trainers who tend to tell me that there is no difference in teaching both office packages (I hate that) Furtheron I would propose to invite Axel Hoernke since he has observed the certification thing for more than 2 years now.
Hi all, It's me Fajar from Indonesia. We have been using OOo 2.0 on 90% of PC in our headquarter in Jakarta for about 3 months now. So far so good. I have been able to support the users based on the help file, google, and the list. However, I think it would be very nice if people can get a training on OOo with an official training materials, so that the quality can be assured. I have some suggestions: 1. For the training material. Maybe we can insert an appendix at the back of each training materials about the difference between OOo and MS Office in regards of menu, spesific features, etc. 2. The testing doesn't have to be 100% automatic, instead we can use the conventional way by which student performs the test on the PC and examiners give score based on the resulting files/works. I think this methode is still valid. Anyway, all the best to OOo team. Looking forward for the official training and test.

Hi Ger, Thanks for your welcome. I'm subscribe to the list too. To ease the sorting of the criteria souldn't we split them by module plus a general one containing criteria on OOo customization ? I've several material ready that could help to establish the criteria. I'll try to find time to work on it next week. Kind regards - Sophie
adding me - Jacqueline - to cc I'm already subscribed to the mentioned mailinglist and I'm looking forward, what's going on here. :-) I hope, I can jump in the discussions later.
Created attachment 34063 [details] Proposal for the general knowledge of the office
Hi, I've attached a file with a table grouping the general knowledge of OOo items (it's based on my own training material ;). I think it could be a basis for the steps of certification. I'll attach another table for Writer. Kind regards- Sophie
Created attachment 34066 [details] Added writer general and advanced kknowledge in the document
Hi again :) So I have added a set of tables for Writer, from normal use to advanced one. This might be to detailed, but I think it could help to refine a set of criteria. If you think that work relevant, let me know and I'll add tables for Calc and Impress. Kind regards - Sophie
Thanks Sophie. Been trying all day till now to acknowlege. Posted to mailing list so others will know to look.
Hi all, The draft looks good. As a quick starter, maybe we can extract the Official Userguide as a base for introduction and intermediate level of the training?
They are good. I encourage each person using this issue to subscribe to the certification@documentation.openoffice.org list. You can do this either via http://documentation.openoffice.org/servlets/ProjectMailingListList page or by sending and email to certification-subscribe@documentation.openoffice.org For additional commands, e-mail: certification-help@documentation.openoffice.org Do not forget to confirm by replying to the confirmation email.

Created attachment 37252 [details] hot to setup a cert program
A brief summary of where we stand, taken from an email message. First, criteria have been worked on in the certification list, http://documentation.openoffice.org/servlets/SummarizeList?listName=certification Second, the criteria are but one element here. The ultimate goal should be using these criteria for devising a program that would allow OOo to create and certify support documentation and processes. louis
