Description warrensanderson 2005-11-05 02:06:24 UTC
I write an equation in Writer. I save the file as a .doc file -
Word XP. I then open the .doc file using Word. The equation does not
appear correctly. Often there is a blank square where a plus sign or space
should be.
Comment 1 Rainer Bielefeld 2005-11-05 10:25:57 UTC
warrensanderson, pls. attach example document!
Comment 2 quetschke 2005-11-05 18:59:36 UTC
Sorry for hitchhiking the issue. I just found the same problem in the OOo 2.0
release version. I will attach examples.

I leave setting the milestone to the actual developer.

I can also confirm the problem, with “2.0 German version WIN XP:
[680m3(Build8968)]â€, pls. see attached screenshots.

After I saved 'example2.odt' in 1.1.4 format, opened that .sxw-document with
“1.1.4 (German) WIN XP: [645m52 (Build 8824)]†and saved that new document as
WORD2000.doc, formulas looked fine in WORD2000

This is a new issue in the 2.0 branch:
"(1.9.m113) German version WIN XP: [680m113(Build8930)]": WFM
"(1.9.m118) English version WIN XP: [680m118(Build8936)]": bad result as reported
"(1.9.m125) German version WIN XP: [680m125(Build8947)]": bad result as reported
"2.0 German version WIN XP: [680m3(Build8968)]": bad result as reported

I've had similar problems. As a workaround, I had success by

1) ensuring that in the Options - Load/Save - Microsoft Office dialog, the
equation is saved as MathType.

After opening in Microsoft Word XP, it still looks wrong... BUT

2) doubleclicking an equation after opening in Microsoft Word opens the equation
editor, and after closing the editor, the equation is rendered correctly.

If the equations are exported as OOo Math, this doesn't work. Double clicking
the equation in MS Word produces a gray box covering the equation, and the
equation disappears after hitting escape to deselect. I think this failure of
Equation Editor while inside Word is a known bug, but I can't find the bug
report at the moment.

Sorry being drastic. This is a regression and makes scientific
documents/presentations no longer exchangeble with MSO users, it's a regreesion.

Setting target to 2.0.1 (please check if this is doable) but this *really* is
important functionality.
Comment 12 dridgway 2005-11-09 18:48:03 UTC
Just to followup my previous comment, the gray box issues are #49599 and #53651,
both FIXED for 2.0.1.
