Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 58478
ask where to break (long) words in (narrow) columns of tables
Last modified: 2013-02-07 22:39:07 UTC
reporter wishes to be asked where words should be breaked when necessary to avoid overlap in next cell instead of automatic wrapping. according to http://qa.openoffice.org/issue_handling/workflowcharts/RFE_issues_by_QA.sxd I reassign this issue to requirements and set the status to new

Issue is still valid. Clarification: Consider a column with a width of 4 characters. If I write Hello in it, it gets wrapped like this: Hell o This has no language-related founding. It should be avoided and replaced by a proper hyphenation option. The current Text Flow option Table|Text Flow|Wrap| Column|Before|After is not clear at all (if it is related at all). I change the issue type to enhancement as the feature hyphenation already exits principally.
The problem is still the same.
sorry - I hadn't seen the comment of lars.
I wonder nothing has changed for 4 years. Tables in writer aren't so seldom. Words longer than a column as well. bla | blabibabo | blu | is stupid, better would be bla blabi-| babo blu | And writer is even more stupid: In my table appears: Gesamtve rbrauch If I put something short before: der Gesamtv erbrauch it doesn't even break der Gesa mtverbrauch Anyway it should be appear a hyphen and it should be appear at the right place (and the user should be asked, where this riight place is). As hyphenation exists, so why only in "normal" text but not in text in tablecells???
