Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 58605
OO 2.0 freezes for 5 min when i paste special from OO 1.1.5
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
Steps to reproduce: 1. open document with OO2.0 2. open another document with OO 1.1.5 3. select and copy to clipboard text from OO 1.1.5 4. paste special in OO 2.0 ISSUE: computer opens gray window and it takes about 5 min to prepare list of sugestions. ISSUE 2: after sugestions are displayed, if oo 2.0 lost focus, for example to read instant message of jabber, OO freezes for another 5 min. Workaround: copy text from OO1.1.5 to simple text editor (like notepad), then copy from there, and paste to OO 2.0 Workaround 2: open sxw document with OO 2.0, and copy/paste special without problem.
Reassigned to ES.
I was able to reproduce it on Linux with OOo 2.0.1 as well.
I reproduced the bug with OOo 2.0.1 RC2 under Win XP Pro SP2 and all Patches. I did not wait 5 minutes for an answer by OOo, but the bug is 100% reproducable.
I was able to reproduce this, WindowsXP, src680m142. After a while the dialog appears with a String like "arOffice 7 Document wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.." The problem is a paste special with source OOo1.x and destination OOo2.0.1 regardless if word processor or spreadsheet. It works well if I try to copy from one instance of a OOo1.0.1 to another instance.
TRA: The root cause is that both versions OOo1.1.5 and OOo2.0 use a clipboard data type 'Star Object Descriptor (XML)' but the content of this clipboard data type has been changed incompatible between both versions. When OOo2.0 now tries to read the clipboard format in question copied by an OOo1.1.5 wrong data will be read which leads to a long long string (>28000 characters). Rendering this long string in the listbox finally seems to be so long. Because the scenario (working with OOo1.1.5 and OOo2.0 in parrallel on the same machine) is too rare/unimportant and resources are too limited this is 'Office later'.
tra: Will not be fixed as use case isn't important enough and resources are very limited

It looks like Calc is affected, too. Please have a look at issue 68563.
I think this is a framework bug and duplicate to Issue 68563.
