Description lars 2002-06-17 21:52:15 UTC
Currently the function wizard starts with All Functions listed.

Opening the pop-down-menu, moving the slider and clicking the desired category
is necessary if one wants to access the fct. one wants to use.

Either it's in the last used fct. or it is new. So always starting with last
used fct.s always saves time.

Hi Falko,

1 4 u.

From my point of view the behaviour of the dialog is Ok as it is, if
you know the name of the function just use the alphabetical order to
select it.

The "All" list is to long; so it will nearly always cost less time if
the wizard starts with "last used function" - makes work easier.
Comment 3 lars 2002-06-18 16:46:46 UTC
Or even better: have two lists:

one the old with categories and next to it a list with last used

Such things make life and work much easier !

The prob. is that the "All" list is so long that moving the (small -
which is harder to click and a prob. too) slider doesn't make one
easily find the needed fct.
So one uses the categories. And once one has to open that drop-down
menu; it doesn't matter where one started, only that it's much
likelier to have the needed fct already in the last used fct list.

Only at the beginning it costs more time for people always used to
using the ALL list for accessing always new functions. But after some
time they won't use all XXX # fct.s but only "some" - and then the
last used fct. list will be easier to handle!

It's these small things which make the difference !

i thought the last used fct. list is file-independant but program
dependant and for all files (one created oneself);

but now I must see that either the list is too short or not saved for
a long enough time or file-dependant after all.

Also fct which one has only clicked on but not "used" (by pressing
OK) are saved in the list. In total I don't kow the exact cause for
the behaviour and what the list really does (/seems to do) but I
suggest the behaviour is: file-independant, infinite time, last one
on top, presentation (design) as in last comment (seperate list
always accessible next to standard list).

The whole wizard concept undergoes a complete re-design for 2.0
Since your requests relates to the "old" version it is outdated.

Because there is no progress done on the function wizard this issue is still
valid. See the attached bitmap for how the function wizard should look like.
Also include custom functions as a category, see issue 6386. bitmap:

Still valid.

re-assigned to FL for further handling.
Comment 13 lars 2008-05-17 23:14:50 UTC
I really like my design proposal.
Comment 14 frank.loehmann 2008-05-19 14:15:30 UTC
I propose to simply add the most recently used (MRU) feature available for a
list box control (like used for the font drop down list box in the toolbar).
This MRU list is shown on top of the complete function list, separated by a
line. It would show all recently used functions of the chosen category. If
possible, we should think about making this MRU list persistent. The MRU list is
disabled, if the “Most Recently†category is chosen.

This change would be affordable and does not need any UI changes. I will give it
a try for 3.x.
