I created an EPS image using the export function of Dia. Now I tried to add 
this image to a presentation slide. I used Insert -> Image -> From File and 
selected the EPS file. Only a rectangle with some of the files headers is 
added to the presentation. I don't think that the eps file is broken, because 
I already used it in Latex to create PDFs and DVIs and never received a 
warning.

No, it is not broken. It is just the preview, that is missing. Please have a
look at i9290. Thanks for your help.
