Description pagalmes.lists 2005-12-22 17:53:31 UTC
Bugs when exporting documents with background images to the word 97/2000/XP
format. Here are 2 files attached showing the problem :

- background : the original file
- background_OOo2.0 : the file exported with OOo2.0.0

This bug may be easy to solve.

Some infos :

When using OOo, you can insert an image as a background for the pages. The
inserted image can use 3 different options : "position", "Area", "Tile". You can
access to those options in the menu "fomat > Page... > background".

In Word, it is note possible to specify different options. You only have access
to something equivalent to the "rea" option.

The results from the export tests :

On the original document, the background is displaed with the "position" option.

A - Doc format export with OpenOffice1.1.4

i - Opening the file with OOo1.1.4 :
No images are displayed on the background.

ii - Opening the file with OOo2.0.0 :
The image which was inserted on the background is displayed as an "inserted
image" on the first page of the document.

iii - Opening the file with Word 2000
No images are displayed on the background.

iv - Opening the file with Word 2003
No images are displayed on the background.

B - Doc format export with OpenOffice2.0.0

i - Opening the file with OOo1.1.4 :
No images are displayed on the background.

ii - Opening the file with OOo2.0.0 :
The image which was inserted on the background is displayed as an "inserted
image" on the first page of the document.
The background is displayed on all the pages in "Area" mode.

iii - Opening the file with Word 2000 :
No images are displayed on the background.

iv - Opening the file with Word 2003 :
Works ok ! Images inserted in the "Area" option.

So on each software, the behaviour is different.

IN FRENCH -------------------------------------------------------------

Note informative :

i - Ouverture avec OOo1.1.4 :

i - Ouverture avec OOo1.1.4

except from the fact that the background image is stretched in Word, the
export is fine. Also OOo 2.0.1 opens background.sxw correctly: the background
image is a background image and not an inserted image on page 1.

Sorry, I maybe didn't explained in details the problems. This bug appears when
you open documents exported in the doc format (word 97/2000/XP). the file
"background.sxw" is the original document you have to export. The
background_OOo2.0.doc is the file already exported.

To see the bugs, you have to export it in the word format, and then open it with
the differents versions of OOo and word. I only tryed word 2000 and word 2003.
the results are just above.

> except from the fact that the background image is stretched in Word, the

Which version of Word did you used ? As stated, it worked fine with Word 2003,
but not with Word 2000.

> Also OOo 2.0.1 opens background.sxw correctly: the background
> image is a background image and not an inserted image on page 1.

In fact, the background.sxw file is opened nicely with all the OOo version, as
it is the original file. But if you try to open th background_OOo2.0.doc, with
OOo, you will notice the bugs.

In fact, I suppose that this is a bug, as when you open the file, OOo is not
able to import it "correctly".

MRU->FLR: when exporting the attached sxw to WW8 format, the background graphic
will be available also as a "normal" graphic in text content.

The fact, that the graphic is strezched is no bug, because Word format only
supports this only background formatting.

This is when opening the file with OOo2.0.

When Opening the file with Word 2000 : there is no background at all...
