Description koendaenen 2006-01-09 21:38:14 UTC
Today, you can drag an individual cell by (1) click on the cell; (2) SHIFT+click
on the cell to mark it as a range (3) release SHIFT (4) click and drag the cell
the a another cell to move or CTRL+click and drag the cell the a another cell to
copy.

I prefer to reduce the number of actions as such:

One the user starts dragging from within the selected cell while holding SHIFT
or CRTL, the move resp copy of a cell must work.

Alternative or in addition:

Differentiation between a range selection or move can be determined based on the
place where the user starts dragging: i.e. range selection when he start in the
middle of the cell; move (with or without SHIFT)or copy (while holding CTRL)
when he start at the border of the cell, i.e. when it look like the user realy
grap the bold box around the cell and drag it to a new place. (btw: this is how
it works in MS-xls)

according to http://qa.openoffice.org/issue_handling/workflowcharts/
RFE_issues_by_QA.sxd I reassign this issue to requirements and set the status
to New

core wish:

Once the user starts dragging from within the selected cell while holding SHIFT
or CRTL, the move or copy of a cell should begin

It is a big lack of usability, that it is not possible to move a cell by just
clicking, holding down, draging and dropping. This should be possible without
using the keyboard and without any additional clicks or mouse-moves. IMO the
best way is to allow the user to move a cell by grabbing it at the bold frame
around it.
