Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 6077
Ability to create nonexistent file from command line
Last modified: 2015-04-17 10:03:13 UTC
It would be nice if swriter -f xx.sdw would create the file xx.sdw if it didn't exist and then open it. It would be nice if there were a -read option. swriter -read xx.sdw would open the file in read mode.

I have had a similar bugreport in the Debian Bug tracking system: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=176869 Date: Wed, 15 Jan 2003 16:17:26 +0100 From: martin f krafft <madduck@debian.org> To: Debian Bug Tracking System <submit@bugs.debian.org> Subject: openoffice.org: starting with non-existing file Message-ID: <20030115151726.GA21157@fishbowl.madduck.net> Package: openoffice.org Version: 1.0.1-6 Severity: wishlist When I call openoffice with a file that does exist as it's first argument, I'd expect it to create a new document in that file. I doesn't, and refuses to start with an error message about a file that doesn't exist.
Just type soffice /path/to/the/file/filename That will open the file in the right application (given the file type is known by OO.o) We currently have no plans to enhance this operation. Tip: If you need read-only mode just use the OS file attributes to do so.

I'm really sorry. I overread that you want to _create_ a file instead of opening an existiong one.
Allow to create an empty document from command-line. Example: Type in soffice /my/path/new_filname.sxw create an empty Writer document named "new_filname.sxw" and opens it in Writer.
