Description raindrops 2006-01-24 08:57:50 UTC
Not all Index entries are right aligned.
I have a 300+ page odt file. I have entered an alphabetical index at the end of
the document, with two levels.

Both levels are supposed to be right-aligned (no tabs).

Most of the entries appear as desired. But in case of a few index entries, the
page numbers are not right-aligned: For such entries, the page numbers start
after a few spaces of the entry's name.

There is no pattern: The problem is not limited to long entries, numerous page
numbers, etc... I checked the entries appearing before/after the problematic
entries also; but there seems to be no pattern there also.

I can share this file (confidential: do not share/post).

(In fact, this single file can demonstrate all 70+ issues I have raised.)

Lars has forwarded the file to MRU and ES. It clearly shows this problem.

Please confirm!

The Index shows another problem also:

1. All "keys" are not supposed to have a blank line to the right.
But Writer shows some keys with dots (.....) extending till the end of the column.

2. The display does not look properly formatted, as the margins are not aligned
automatically to the longest Index Entry. In such cases, the page numbers start
immediately after the entry's text.

Page numberws not right aligned, for Contents 4 paragraph style, reset "Indents
and Spacings":
- Before text: 0.59''
- First line: 0.00''

No it's not that: three samples having "Index 1" style are reproduced below:

Recent	92, 93, 239, 240, 274
Recycle bin.....93, 103, 104, 163, 239, 240, 255
RegEx	223, 305, 306

The middle line has right alignment. The other two lines have left alignment.

These two entries have left-alignment.

Path	47, 95, 205, 222, 225, 259, 266, 282
pdf	93, 94, 167, 201, 209

Comment 9 eric.savary 2006-08-30 01:31:43 UTC
(Sorry I mixed up TOC and index! /-( )

The problem is due to a mix of:
- right aligned tab
- indent before text
- too few page numbers to wrap on the sond line
- an entry shorter than the indent before text

See my comments in the attached document.

The sample says (at the end) that the problem will be solved when the entry is
right-aligned. Actually I should have reported my bug in generic terms;
something like this: "All entries in Index do not follow the given alignhment."

Although I highlighted the issue in the right-alignment context, it applies to
left alignment too. So, if the entry is formatted for the left-alignment, they
should be consistent in that.

Secondly, the sample does not mention the following issue:
"In the case of a multiline entry, automatically change the paragraph's hanging
indent to make the entry stand out."

Please let me know if this should be raised as a separate issue.

Thanks!

This Issue requires more information ('needmoreinfo'), but has not been updated
within the last year. Please re-test with one of the latest versions of OOo -
the problem(s) may have already been addressed. Either use the recent stable
version: http://download.openoffice.org/index.html
or consider trying the new OOo 3 BETA (still in testing):

Please report back the outcome so this Issue may be closed or progressed as
necessary - otherwise it may be Resolved as Invalid in the future. You may also
