Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 61352
Include outline settings into "Load.Styles" process for "Numbering" option
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
The outline numbering definition of a document cannot be fully copied into another document. 1) The Styles and Formatting > Load styles function does not copy the outline numbering definition. 2) The Outline numbering > Format function does not copy the paragraph style names associated with the outline numbering levels.

MRU->FL: I think, it could be useful to include the Outline settings into the Load.Styles process for the "Numbering" option. Maybe this should be added in the "Numbering and Bullets 2" spec.
FL: I think outline handling will change to normal numbering behavior when we will finish the work on Numbering Part II. Set target to OOo later.
add dev note
I have a disser.ott template where I keep all my styles (attached) Whenever I apply it to any document (existing or just created) it breaks outline numbering of the document. There is no means to prevent this unwanted behavior. I think it's more a defect than a request for feature.

I just added votes for this issue as it seems closest to the problem that has been annoying me for a long time. I create a document, turn on outline numbering and start writing - headings get numbered as 'heading 1' = '1', 'heading 2' = '1.1', etc. At the end of my session I save the document. The next day, I open the document again and continue writing. Now any time I insert a new heading into the document, it will have started back and number 1. And other newly added headings are numbered relative to the other newly added heading, even when inserted between numbered headings from my previous session. For example, session 1, I open a new document and it looks like this when I save it: [title page] [page break] [table of contents page] [page break] 1 Overview 2 JNDI Configuration 2.1 Naming Configuration 2.2 Scope 2.3 Resource References 3 JDBC DataSource The next session, I start OOo, load my document, then insert a line after section 2.3. Now I chose "Heading 2" from the "Apply Style" drop down and line is now numbered "1.1". It should have been "2.4". If, instead, I put the cursor at the beginning of the text "Resource References" and hit enter, a new "heading 2" line is created that briefly is numbered 2.4, but in a fraction of a second changes to 1.1. I have done nothing with templates or OTT files, other than whatever is the default or built-in template for OO. Hopefully this is the issue where my votes belong.
FL: A short comment to latest post from eherget: Most times the outline numbering is messed up in a document, a hard numbering is assigned to the "Heading <1..n>" paragraphs. Please press the "Numbering on/off" button from the formatting toolbar to get rid of those hard numbering on paragraphs were an outline paragraph style has been assigned. Please feel free to send me a demo document (frank.loehmann@sun.com) if you have still problems to fix the outline.
Isn't it the same problem as Issue 49754 ?
It does seem duplicate to me The file that I attached 10 months can serve as an example for both issues. My opinion is not very competent, but if these two really appear to be duplicate we must mark them as duplicate and give our votes to one of them to speed up the fix.
