Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 6158
Formula size changes on re-open
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:56:16 UTC
This is actually issue # 3752 that I had submitted in March this year as part of ui and is still labelled "new". This problem exists with OO 1.0 also. I am using openoffice 641d on Linux Mandrake 8.1. After writing an equation and saving the document, and then re-opening it for the first time, equation size is distorted (reduced) from the original size. Double-clicking on the equation, causes the comand window to open and the size is automatically fixed. After that, if the document is saved, it re-opens fine. To reproduce this bug (how I do it): 1. Create a new document, add a new equation object, enter in the command window: %lambda {partial %PHI} over {partial F} 2. Write some text under it: This is some text 3. Save document, Exit openoffice. 4. Restart openoffice, open the document. The equation size should be smaller. If the equation is double clicked, the original size is restored and on saving, does not have this error again.
TL->MRU: I cannot reproduce this with a current version. It might be related to internal bug IDs #98638 and #100748 though. Please check if you can reproduce the described effect or if it is OpenOffice specific.
MRU->TL: It is only OpenOffice/Linux related. StarOffice on Linux or OpenOffice on Win32 do not show such a problem. After reloading the document you can recognize different object sizes in the object properties before and after activating the Math OLE.
Well, sth. needs to be written here...

Should be fixed with next build. TL->MRU: Please check and close this one. See also internal bug #100748#.
How do I get/join internal bug issues? I'm kind of surprised ...
Sorry, you won't. It's just an internal reference ID for the assigned QA member (Tester).
Ooops... accidently closed. Reopened...
>> ------- Additional Comments From Thomas Lange 2002-11-20 01:52 PST >> Should be fixed with next build. Thanks TL, MRU and the openoffice team!! Does this mean that the next stable/developer release will have this issue fixed? In time for me to write my PhD dissertation :) - Rohit
Yes I think this will be in the next developer build. Though I'm not sure if there is some kind of selection of fixes that go in that build. I don't think so, but I do not know.
This issue is not yet fixed in 643C :( The change in formula size has lessened, but is still noticable. Using kruler, the size of a sample equation was 62 before double-clicking and 64 after that. Hopefully the next build will incorporate the bug-fix. -Rohit
If the current latest release is 643C the fix will of course not be in that version. The fix is currently only submitted. The build still needs to be done. It should be available in 643D or 643E (sometimes patches do not find their way in the very next release depending on the time between submitted fix and started build). You should try one of these versions when the become available.
As I can see from the internal task, this bug will be fixed in OpenOffice 644. Sorry for inconvenience.
Fix will appear in OpenOffice 1.1 beta.
closed. Fix will be public soon.
