Description atlanx 2006-02-12 17:14:23 UTC
I have tried really long to find a language pack on the www.openoffice.org(and
on the german de.openoffice.org) website but I could not find an link do
download a language pack to change Openoffice from German to English to Japanese
and back.

For example:
I have tried to find it on the "Native-Language Confederation projects page" but
there are only listed the projectpages. And this would be not helpfull too, if
you try to change from German to English.

Finaly i have found the answer in the newsgroup that they are lying in
http://oootranslation.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/2.0.1rc5/
. But this was a long, long way.

Please list the language packs on the website.

confirming; I couldn't find a link to the language packs on the relevant web
pages either, ie. http://projects.openoffice.org/native-lang.html or http://
download.openoffice.org/2.0.1/. Although the latter has a link "Language packs"
this link only points to the former page where there is no link direct or
indirect to language packs.

This is causing a lot of difficulty for my clients, and I would welcome a rapid
response

It's extreamly hard to find a language packs.
We are using 7 different languages at the office and i am trying to set up a
local mirror that rsync's stable versions and language packs.

i would very much like to fetch language packs (~20mb) instead of complete
installers (~100mb). But there is no single directory that contains all the
language packs.
Even if i try to get the localized installers i cannot get all of them from one
place (ftp.somemirror.xyz/pub/mirror/openoffice.org/localized/) since some
languages seems not to be uploaded there (eg: sv).

This is clearly a place OO could improve, it should not be as hard as with MS
office to install new languages.

What i would like to see:
1. All localized installers should be on the FTP-mirrors.
2. All language packs should be on the FTP-mirrors.

I see that some languages found at for example:
http://ftp-1.gwdg.de/pub/openoffice/localized/

contain both installers and language packs.
Best would be if all languages conatained both installers and language packs.

Currently i miss the following for OO 2.1.0:
Swedish (sv): installer, langpack.
Norwegian (nb): langpack.
Norwegian (nn): langpack.
English GB (en_GB): isntaller, langpack.
German (de): langpack.
Danish (da): installer, langpack.

in order to progress this issue and because it may actually be the right
component, I change the component to website where design and content of the
main page is dealt with

.... And that caused my votes to be dumped. I cannot find any way to vote for
this issue now. Perhaps voting is not enabled for the website.

OK, here are two virtual votes.

I found most of the language packs at
http://oootranslation.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/2.1.0rc2/

I say most, but it might be all. [I thought that there was a language pack for
English (Australia).]

The main download page should have a line that says:
"For language packs go to http://blah.blah.blah."

Several years later, this has still not been fixed. OpenOffice.org help says
"Select the language used for the user interface, for example menus, dialogs,
help files. You must have installed at least one additional language pack or a
multi-language version of OpenOffice.org." Searching the site for "language
pack" or "multi-language version" provides nothing useful. A google search for
"language pack" on openoffice.org finds large numbers of people asking where the
language packs are. Why not just tell us?

Looks like someone put it together for OpenOffice-v3.2.0-Release(Feb 2010):
