Description belowsky 2006-03-13 16:22:09 UTC
When I export an ARABIC doc to PDF, the resulting PDF will look different than
the doc and particularly when I use justified text.

I have made two PDFs; the first one is exported using OOo Export function. and
the second one is by using a virtual PDF printer (pdfFactory).

Reassigned to HI.
Comment 3 belowsky 2006-03-16 15:41:55 UTC
I forgot to point that pdfFactory PDF Printer did create the PDF very will
unlike OOo Export to PDF function.
B.S. I tried other PDF printers (like Jaws PDF Creator) and they created the
PDF just like it should be.
Comment 4 lohmaier 2006-04-04 20:31:17 UTC
not reproducible with m158 on linux.

While I don't get the same display as in the "correct" pdf provided, I do get
the exact same display as in OOo - Maybe my language-settings are different.

Anyway I cannot reproduce the bug and I cannot judge whether OOo's rendering of
the sample document is correct or not. (but even when OOo is wrong, this would
be another issue since here the PDF-export produces the very same result).

HI->PL: Could reproduce in WinXP. In my result I've got spaces which is not
present on sample doc and some characters are missing.
Comment 7 philipp.lohmann 2006-04-06 10:36:45 UTC
pl->hdu: this looks to be some SalLayout problem, could you please have a look ?
Comment 8 hdu@apache.org 2006-04-06 10:48:57 UTC
I'm quite sure that the top right window in the sample image is not the correct
one. To me it looks like the only one with problems.

HDU->FME: looks like a problem with kashida justification for PDF export
Comment 9 frank.meies 2006-04-06 16:02:46 UTC
FME->belowsky: Please try to set the CTL font language to an Arabic language,
e.g., to Arabic Egypt: First you have to enable the CTL support at Tools ->
Options -> Language Settings, then set the font language at Format -> Character
-> Font -> CTL Font -> Language. Does this make a difference?
Comment 10 belowsky 2006-04-07 03:44:14 UTC
Guys The problem here is the PDF Export function.
hdu, you are right that the top right window in the sample image is not
correct. But, as I said, I was foucsing on how OOo export PDF instead of how
correct is the document. B.S. I was about to report a problem regarding Arabic
in OOo that heappen when I use justified text. And from my experince, SOME
TIMES TEXT APPEARS WRONG LIKE THE TOP RIGHT WINDOW AND SOME TIMES IT RENDERS
CORRECTLY JUST LIKE "cloph". It depends on how it was written (by copy and
paste or by writing normally).
fme, Thats how I do it usually.
BTW, I use WinXP.

FME->belowsky: [...] fme, Thats how I do it usually. [...] So why does your
sample document have the CTL language set to 'none'? Again, please try to set
the CTL language to Arabic something and check if this makes a difference.
Comment 12 belowsky 2006-04-07 17:05:36 UTC
BelowSky -> fme. Again your are right and I DID try to set the CTL language to
Arabic (Saudi Arabia). And I know that I should set CTL language to Arabic here
but that DIDN'T make a correct PDF either and I mean by correct is to make an
EXACT copy of the doc to the PDF :)
Again mr. fme, changing the CTL language to Arabic (Saudi Arabia or Egypt or
Lebanon or whatever Arab country) will not make the PDF as Precise as it should
be. You have to note that ALL virtual PDF printers CAN DO a Precise PDF of any
Arabic doc.
Thanks for your help.

FME->HDU: As discussed, not a Writer problem. Back to you ;-)

Comment 15 hdu@apache.org 2006-07-12 14:59:16 UTC
Probably fixed by CWS vcl6[01] anyway. No time to analyze this in the next few
days anyway. Retargeting...
