Description lars 2002-07-06 18:48:43 UTC
Opening a csv text file on german windows with german OOo with the following
format "4.23 8.46 10.12 " and so on, and selecting "text" as data format
leads to some data having an -> ' <- before the first number.

Take attached file. Open it as text csv. Select only "Space" as cell seperator,
select combine cell seperators (translated from german). NOW select cell
in "previewer" with number 3.84 and choose text as data format for that
number. Now click Ok and select the cell with the number the text format was
just chosen for. You should see a ' in front of the number in the "toolbar data
field" and when entering the cell in the cell itself. That's the bug.

(SO6 SO5 and Excel97 have got the identical bug but I think in these mentioned
app.s the ' is actually after the first number)

Hi Lars,

this isn't a bug. The Apostrophe is a modifier to make a number a text.

So I close this as Invalid.

Best regards

Frank

pleeease wait !

I can't work with that !

Or how am I supposed to work with my data!

If there is no fct. "remove ' " please don't put one in !!
(enhancement suggestion).

And see my other proposal !
Comment 6 frank 2002-07-08 10:57:00 UTC
Hi Lars,

if you do not use the function insert as text, the apostrophe will not
appear. So this is not a bug and not an enhancement. It's just invalid.

So I close it again.

Wait agaian!

I openen a csv file by open file.

I chose "text" in the Data Import Dialogue, because otherwise all
numbers become dates and I don't get my original values.

_____________All the Data import should do is give me my
values._________________!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the purpose, the sense behind it.

But it doesn't!

How do I get my values? Please help me. There are only 5 format
options and some of them transform my values in a way I don't want it.

This issue is most important I believe!

Hi Lars,

this is not an Issue, it's a support question.

The enhancement of the CSV Importfilter is on it's way and will be
available with a 643 build.

To open such files you have to choises :

1.) Just set all single columns to US- English. A lot of work, I know.
This will be changed with the 643 builds.

2.) Go to Tools Options Languages and set the Locale setting under
'Language of ...' to English - US, close the dialog and import the
file. Now set the locale setting back to default or what ever you need.

Thats it.

I'm nerving with this question ("list of..."), but then I may not
nerve again with outdated issues...
