Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 65184
Text direction buttons (vertical/horizontal) always stay greyed-out
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:19:57 UTC
Hi There, Thanks for taking the time to look into this. I am bilingual - English and Japanese. I love OpenOffice (especially since version 2 was released), but I am having a problem with Japanese text formatting. Going to Format (menu), Page, Page tab, allows a user to select text direction - Left to right (horizontal), or Right to left (vertical). These same buttons are available to be put on a toolbar as desired (selecting content from the formatting toolbar when in the "Customize Toolbar" dialogue), but are named slightly differently - "Text direction from top to bottom" and "Text direction from left to right". Neither of these buttons, however, works. (Other users have verified this problem.) This is very frustrating, because it is very convenient for formatting newsletters and whatnot to have these formatting buttons just one click away, rather than buried within the Format Page dialogue. I seem to remember that these buttons worked in version 1.9, but I can't remember exactly. I think it should be fairly easy to repair the functionality of these buttons. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or feedback. Thanks. Ned Milburn. dulwithe@myrealbox.com

Reassigned to SBA.
confirmed with 680_m166 on WinXP Pro SP2; the icons stay greyed out and cannot be used
SBA: Same problem in 680m106 (1.9xx), 680m124, 680m145, 680m167. And: Same in SO 7 PU6. Sadly, it looks like these never worked. SBA->OS: The buttons do appear but they stay greyed-out. I am not sure if you or CD is the winner. Please proceed.
I think, that it is the same problem as in issue 54423 and it should be solved there.
Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
