Starting the proof and graphics collection. I wonder if an example set might be
useful? Say like a store or collection?
Comment 5 alex.thurgood 2006-05-21 17:00:28 UTC
Thanks for setting this up Ger.

As to the graphics collection, it would probably be a good idea provided that
the interface doesn't change too often. One of the problems we have encountered
with the French localised version is that in some of the RCs released for QA
testing, the menu entries had been renamed - this has happened when 2.02. was
released and now the docs we did for that version will have to be changed again
when 2.03 gets released with new menu entries. I realize that this is unlikely
to happen with the US_EN version though.

The original author has made some minor corrections to the French original, so I
shall integrate them some time during the week.

Alex, I have na easier solution. Attach the original. It it very likely I can
handle small translation changes. Helps if record and show are enabled so I know
what to change. I have my Larousse de poche handy :-)
Comment 7 alex.thurgood 2006-05-21 20:42:28 UTC
Don't worry about that, I can handle the changes the original author has put in,
and put their translations into a revised version of the
Getting_Started_with_Base.odt. I'll also flag the changes with the appropriate
OOo tool.

Is there a newer version of this document (How to get started with OOoBASE)? I
wanted to have a look and work on it but its been a couple months since this one
was posted.

I believe that Scott is using this as he re-writed the Base Chapter of the
guide. Hence not updated. Please feel free to ask questions on
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=28136

Dan Lewis wrote a very good "Getting Started with Base" chapter for the Getting
Started book. I haven't looked at the document in this issue to see how it
differs, but I'm wondering if Dan's chapter might effectively supercede this one
(in English, anyway). Or does Dan's go into more detail than we want in a how-to?

change owner. This looks like a contribution to the OOoManuals.
Comment 12 jeanweber 2009-08-17 21:48:14 UTC
I have now read the second document attached to this issue.

Dan's chapter covers much of the same how-to info as the doc in this issue, but
this doc begins with some additional basic ideas (background info) about
relational database systems and approaches the whole topic from a slightly
different perspective.

I think the doc in this issue is worth the effort to bring up to date and edit
further for publication, though with a different title, to distinguish it from
the chapter in the GS book.

At a minimum, the doc in the issue would need updating to OOo3. We should find
out if the French original has been updated. If so, it might be better to get
the updates translated into English and work from there.

Further consideration: should it be turned into a wiki document (series of wiki
pages) instead of being only in .odt? Should that be done now, before updating,
labelling all the pages as needing work to bring up to date?

Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
