Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 65861
Command window should use dynamic line break position
Last modified: 2015-03-04 13:14:21 UTC
The line break of the MathML input-field is set to a fix position. This is inconvenient. It's position should be set dynamically, like every usual editor does. Please have a look at the attached Draw-document for some screenshots.

MRU->TL: the use of the command window is very non-intuitive. The text flow in it should behave like a text editor; the automatic line breaks should be recalculated on every change of the window size. Issue 30588 will get obsolete by this here; close it in favour. This solution is much better IMO.
TL: I disagree with this point of view. To write formulas in Math is kind of programming them. And for program text automatic line break is bad for many people since the structure originally given (indention, line breaks, etc. ) changes with the windows width. If it need to have automatic line breaking there should at least be an option to control this behaviour. TL->FL: To you for decision.
Addibng myself to CC list.
"And for program text automatic line break is bad for many people ..." I see your point. But the current behaviour is really not very good. So I agree that a dynamic line break position (calculated after every window resize) that can be switched off optional would be the best solution. Furtheron I think that user-forced line breaks (RETURNS) should be indicated by a character; like in Writer does if "Nonprinting Characters" is switched on. So the user can differ between forced and automatic line breaks. I think both changes should be implemented together.
If you implement such an option (I hope so), automatic line break should be enabled by default. This avoids having the whole formula displayed in one line for users who have not set forced line breaks in their formulas.
set target to OOo 2.x
No resources for 2.4 -> OOo later.
I am also up for it and adding myself to the cc list...
