Description doctype 2006-05-29 18:33:26 UTC
Under certain conditions, Calc freezes/gets unresponsive when trying to insert a
column.

Details:

There are two ways to select a cell for inserting data into a calc cell:

1. Click once, the cell get's a "fat" border
2. Double-click, a blinking cursor shows

When trying to insert a (previously copied) column into a spreadsheet after
selecting a cell with method 2, OpenOffice hangs.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Select a column with at least two cells with data (by clicking on the column
head - A/B/C et. al.)
2. Copy it (command-c)
3. Select another cell by double-click (with blinking cursor)
4. Paste column by keyboard shortcut command-v (Note: When choosing the paste
toolbar button, only unformatted text/rtf-options are available & no freeze occurs)

I could provide a sample document, but it's easy to reproduce with a minimal
(self made) document.

The sample from Activity Monitor is from NeoOffice 2 Alpha 3 Patch 1, which is
based (as far as I know) on OpenOffice 2.0.2 & has the same bug. The bug has
also been confirmed on Windows XP, see:

Confirming OOo 2.0.2 OS X and XP. To reproduce with vanilla X11 OOo on Mac, use Control-C, Control-V
(not Command). Changing platform to "All", Version from 2.0.3 to 2.0.2 (typo in report?).
Comment 4 doctype 2006-05-30 10:19:04 UTC
The OpenOffice.org version I use on Mac OS X / X11 shows 2.0.3, I used the disk
image with name OOo_SRC680_m168_MacOSXPPC_en-US.
Comment 5 dridgway 2006-05-31 00:53:40 UTC
Changed version back to 2.0.3.

Hi Niklas,

one for you I think.

It's nonsense to copy a whole colun with 65535 cells into one but a freeze
should be avoided.

confirming on OO 2.1 on WinXP proffesional SP2
OOffice hanged with memory growing (0,5 MB /s)
Comment 8 kwietniewski 2007-02-02 07:16:21 UTC
observed a similar failure in following way:
1. clicked cell C 30000 in an empty spreadsheet
2. by pressing shift + ctrl + up arrow selected cells up to C 1
3. Ctrl+c
4.double clicked some other cell
5. ctrl+v   ---> OO hangs
 - also tried selecting 5000 cells, however OO recovered in approx 10 seconds.

I have this problem any time I try to insert columns in any way. This includes:

1. Right-clicking on any cell and selecting "insert column" from the context menu.
2. Selecting any cell, then selecting "Column" from the "Insert" menu.

I'm using OOo 2.3.0.5 on Gentoo linux.
